Today on the WGLR

Lovely Mel,

Needs some 32mm gauge! 8D
Cheers Matt, I'm afraid I'm all out of space.

Today I finally got around to ballasting the Welshpool Narrows and Foggy Bottom viaduct.

Some of the ballast simply sits between the Astroturf pieces (I used this method on WGLR Mk1 and it worked quite well), while some of it is held in place by dilute PVA. Of course, it all needed lots of testing.

Great piccys Mel. The railways looking more realistic than the realistic stuff that its meant to be modeled on.....:rolf::rolf:

Looks rather nice, well blooming good really!

Shame, cos I've a couple of lengths of NG 32mm track with wooden sleepers that were being thrown out at my MRC!

Anyway, ballasting looking great mate....

Mel, that view down the line across the viaduct is just wonderful, with so much character and detail. For me that pretty much sums up what a garden railway can be. I just love it!

Looking really good Mel:thumbup:
I've been having problems with my "verdant" growth - part of the line's had to be lifted so I can dig down 12 -18" to get the b#%*@#! roots out:@

Wow! What a transformation... I presume the narrows on the W&G are not built on top of a brook/stream then, like they were in Welshpool? I always wondered if you'd ballast it, or timber deck it!

Beautiful work Mel. I love all of the stone work

Thanks again for all the encouraging remarks guys.

Just letting a train or two run round and round can be great fun, but I do also sometimes run to a sort of timetable, or rather a sequence. Did that today with two passenger trains.

With this "realism" in mind, I've drawn a map to show the location of the WGLR in relation to the Cambrian standard gauge (tongue out of side of the mouth, being careful to stay in the lines).

I think it makes some sort of sense? You may notice that Gooey is quite close to Newtown and, at first glance, a direct connection would seem to make more sense, but as anyone who has driven into Newtown from England will tell you, it would have to be a rack line as there's a dirty great hill in the way.

For those that don't know the area, it's nice that, although all of the branch lines are long gone - except for the W&LLR of course - the line from Shrewsbury to Machynlleth is still very much in use.

I'm not sure that the current Lord Llewellyn would allow me to mate?:confused:

Too late Ethel!! :rolf:

Cheers Paul. I know you share my fascination for trains running in between buildings.

I made this vid yesterday, but my new camera doesn't appear to want to save films in any format that any other programmes recognise. :@
Anyhoo, I've finally sorted it out. We start with a view of a BR pannier tank on the interchange siding at Gooey before loco No.1 Llewellyn pulls away with her down passenger train. We follow the train through the country (as do Frankie and Spike  ) before crossing Foggy Bottom and entering the Narrows where the train stops until Church Street is clear. Then it's off to the other end of the line at Wetton where the service terminates.

You wouldn't catch me driving down from Newtown to Kerry - the size of those Pumas ! :onphone:

Even the cameraman was shaking with fright :rolf::rolf:
