Wickes

Decking Boards 3 for the price of 2! Works out at £2.33 a length............

http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Value-Deck-Board-25-x-120mm-x-1-8m/p/145255

Timber to form circle of R1 curves, template required, as each piece of track turns 30 degrees, requires cut of 15 degrees from perpendicular at each end, decking boards are not quite wide enough, the following are of sufficient width to form the sections for the curved track.

Or

Gravel boards....

http://www.wickes.co.uk/search?q=gravel boards:price-asc

Due to differences in thickness of the timber, again depending on whether all Decking Boards, Sawn or Gravel Boards are used, packing pieces may be required.

Screwfix have a selection of Glazing Packers of varying thickness, or wedge strips that are used for levelling kitchen furniture.

The plastic composition of the Loft Stilts is better suited to Pan Head Screws or Bolts, again Screwfix have a selection to suit, plus Cabinet Makers products that can be utilised to join the various sections and boards together.

Hmmm. Wonder what the UV will make of the plastic?

I like the thinking :rock::rock::rock::rock:

How does it compare price wise with Filcris - the brown recycled stuff?

I think the recycled plastics, like decent oak, is priced by the ounce!

Looks like a good idea to me. Also looks like a good idea for the original purpose they're made for. Wait, where's the other languages on the box.....LOL

A good idea - subject to UV as already said. But please, stop buying timber in DIY sheds, it's bloody expensive and usually carp quality.
A decking board is 150 x 38 mm - my local timber merchant - 4.8 meters for £9.50.
And plastic decking is about 19 quid for 4 meters, again 150 mm wide.

and, Did you know - recycled plastic timber contains a lot of wood. I only recently found this out.

I saw those some time ago and wondered about how feasible a layout was using them. Interesting to see how things go now somemone's tried it.

Down here in the South West that same board will cost £11.46 + VAT, plus there is a minimum charge of £25.00 for delivery!

Would partially agree with you on timber from shed's, B & Q timber is of a substantially lower quality than comparable products from Wickes, some of the original Wickes decking has been down for nearly six years, no signs of warping, splitting, AND to boot it's never been treated other than as it was supplied.

Tried the plastic decking, by the time all the additional timber has been added, not only does the cost factor increase, but the time factor to fit it all, increases by a huge margin.

The need is to be simple, economical, readily available, and can be transported in an average car, so I'll stick with continuing to buy from one of the sheds, namely Wickes...........

look at a company called Edecks they deliver all over the Uk for decking at quite good prices, they also sell reject decking boards that can be used for a variety of projects

I tend to use a local builders yard who sells to the public as well and delivers free., occasionally I do pick up the odd bit of wood from B&Q if they have enough in the racks so I can search and find a straight bit :)

Not a lot of use to those of us in the South West................edecks.PNG

Wickes is more trade orientated - wish they had a branch over here!
I bought some decking boards here (from a Builders Merchant) - 150mm wide. Made a picnic table and some garden seats. Now they need repairing. Boards at the merchants now 125mm wide. Perverse!.

Nearest Q & B - 110km away. Prices sky high - Treasure Ireland!
