Then and NOW....

Same corner 22 years apart. Once a simple single loop around the garden, 24' x 12. Now 2 concentric connected ones and just visible a tight serpantine bit inside and connected to the inner loop. Sdings extending into the house off to the left. See those small conifers grouped in the foreground ? Things grow, creating unexpected veiws and scenic opportunities. Max

That's the best thing about garden railways. Ever changing, and growing.

What a great idea. Love seeing how your railways have developed over the years.
Mines too new to have then and now pictures, unless you want the before picture to be a dirt patch .
That will still work, I have a few up my sleave to do including before the railway was started. I think a picture like that can show newbies how things can be created from a blank space, can be quite intimidating looking at that blank garden to think how can Inget a railway in here.

Ok then here's where I started in February 2024.

A not very level space beside my workshop, used to store "stuff" and as a outdoor workspace.
Fenced off with a unattractive temporary fence to keep the dogs out of the workshop.

March 2026 shot taken looking back the other way. The other side is a bit nicer scenery wise.
As you can see, still keeping a lot of "stuff" around that space :D.
My wife calls it the great wall, wonder what she will think when it is 8m longer to fit in Arosa station :D.

Is that your railway in the Gscale Soc mag ? i thought I recognised the neat stone work, unless I missed at no point is your "location" revealed or is that for the next issue.

Envious of the space, if not the work to keep on top of it..

An 8m extension?
Some gardens in the UK, would struggle to get 8m of track in.

Keep up the progress. We can all sit here and watch your hard work. :D

Not my railway its only on here and youtube, as far as I know :D.
I did get the idea to use the blocks from a railway on youtube, that's in either Canada or America. It is brilliant, takes up 5x times the space of this.

That's a stunning transformation!

I could happily spend hours rummaging in there!
i need to.
the last (partially finished) layout did not combine any more with my new ideas, the collection of building material (in femalese: junk) did cover and suffocate everything in the room and...

... my firstborn grandchild has the human right to a functioning railroad empire to destroy, when he turns four. - that will be in three and a half year.
less than four years is a very short deadline by my working speed standards.
so i need to throw things away (about 10%), sort out things (100%), guard things (95% - new junk included), build new benchwork, sculpt landscapes from foam (children love to tear apart foam buildings and landscape - at least my daughters did), and teach my SIL how to maintain a model railroad until my grandson can do it himself.

there is much to do - lets wait it out...

I cheated. 3 photos.
