So on Saturday I attended an advanced course on Massoth DCC and thought it might not be a bad idea to sort out some idiosyncrasis of some of my locos and other bits and pieces. So I shelled out on a PC module, resurected my old lap top and since then given up the will to live. I am getting absolutely nowhere in getting started and can not find any coherant manuals on how to hook it all up, even the MTS manual does not explain how to do it in any language I can understand. I have tried from supplied CD and from Wiki and have somehow opened up something but cannot find the USB drivers that one is supposed to have before hooking up the module. Its just fortunate its an electric oven!

Volts go in on the red and black.. USB at the front.. Other two screw terminals to a length of track, or couple of wires to poke in a decoder..

Have you got the software on the PC?
 
Yup, that is what I have. I have tried downlooding the tool from the CD and from Wiki but it does not seem to present itself as a program on the Lap top.

That would be way to easy!! :rolleyes::nod:

If you have run the CD, then there will be a 'Massoth' folder somewhere on your hard-drive, and the service tool will be in that.. - You will probably have to 'allow' the program to run, as Winders will not find a certificate to allow it to..

Then you can choose the language (if it hasn't detected it correctly), and then the virtual COM port that has been assigned to the USB connection. - And all this is a lot easier than it used to be, honest! :nod::worried::nerd::nerd:
 
I have been playing with it on my desktop computer and it would appear to run somewhere but does not appear to download itself as a stand alone program, that is probably what is confusing me. I shall persevere as in all things. Thanks for the encouragement.
 
If it's running W7,8 or 10, look in Downloads??
 
Just because I have been quiet does not mean I got anywhere! I have progressed, and it is W10 by the way, but I can not get the Programming Module to open up. It has 3 strikes (Trys) and comes up as an error and remains closed. Anyone out there who might have an incling of what I am on about and can get me back on the straight and narrow?
 
Click on 'Interface' on top menu bar, then first item (set or configure interface, I forget which).
Highlight PC Module in left window, drop down on RHS and select the virtual COM Port associated with your USB port. - Probably COM 7..

You may have to close the application and open it again having done this.
 
Yes! I have got the thing working in so far as the functions seem to function and it is the rest of you whom I thank for the advice that has been forthcoming. Now it's down to playing with the programming......what joy. If it goes tits up as Arnie would say "I'll be back". TTFN

From bottom RH Corner of the screen the click on the icon, go to All settings, then Devices, RH side look for Devices and Printers, click on.

On mine shows up as FT232R USB UART.

Right Click on it, then click on Properties, then click on Hardware, see attached picture, once you can confirm that Windows 10 acknowledges the device is present and working, make a note of the Com Port, this is needed for when configuring the Massoth Service Tool, Drop Down Menu Interfaces, then select Configure.

As mentioned previously, latest versions of the MST and Drivers can be found on the Massoth Wiki.
