The Adler - progress

I started my new project - the Adler, a model kit from Occre. This is my second attempt. I had such fun with the Lisbon Tram, I decided to try another. The Flu lock-down has provided me with lots of time to work on these. Here are some photos showing some of my progress.

I just finished the locomotive portion of the kit. I had to make some adjustments. The part that mounts the smokestack was missing, so I had to make my own version. I also used the leftover borders from the brass cut-outs to make some trim which I added here and there.

I had a hard time getting small pieces of brass rings to glue and take hold, especially on painted wooden parts. Perhaps I should glue the brass to naked, pre-painted wood? Also painting the brass was a challenge. I did a bit of sanding, and used acrylic paints, but the paint came off easily. Maybe I need to use a primer of some sort. I did experiment with a shellac, but it didn't make any big difference. So if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

MMmm an etching primer is recommended with most metals - brass is particularly tricky.

Humbrol used to make a plumbate (?) primer - canary yellow, but it worked with most things.

I use an etching primer from Halfords - it's OK to spray on everything, and I believe it's a US manufacture because it has a # before the number (#5 maybe ?? )

Carl, before you even begin to paint - give everything a coat of the Tamiya All-surface primer. Too late now, I know, but for future models.

Yes the danger zone is clicking the button that puts the lot in at one go.
