7/8ths and 1/12th modeling in Railways and Birdwat
Country flag
Well I cannot believe how long its been since I posted pic's of the line. It seems its been over a year and not a lot was run over the last year or so as life outside the garden took over, so I thought I'd start another thread.

Things have been evolving on the line (and deteriorating too!). I still run the estate line to the more rubber 1/12th and 7/8ths but a new project has been evolving. Since I bought and built the IP Engineering 7/8ths coaches I have had a hankering for the bucolic British narrow gauge trains meandering though the countryside. So I started to assemble a few bits of stock to build trains set there, around the time of the 2WW perhaps, but still using the same line. Anyway as you may have seen I am building a live steamer on a Lawley chassis and that now is ready for paint. But I figured it would be nice to have a battery powered steam outline loco too. So my tramway loco was born being scratch built on a Piko 0-6-0 chassis. I have to say at this point its not finished... the detailing is not there (such as bolts on the cylinders etc) and the cab backhead and steam turret are being built separately before adding them and the rest of the cab details.

Any way today was its first proper outing on the line as the weather over the last year has taken its toll and I had a fair bit of work to do before a train could run.

Now we are at the running stage its building refurbishment and replacement etc in the near future. I'm thinking of building removable station buildings etc for the narrow gauge line so as they live inside and only go out for running sessions. The original estate stuff needs restoration a bit but lives outside. Of course the temptation to relay the track with proper wooden sleepers and spikes keeps coming, then something happens to make me thankful for the Aristo and LGB.

Anyway hopefully I'll keep adding pic's a bit more regularly than previously!

Hehe... It was having that smokebox hanging around that kick started the build! Just been thinking that it needs, as well as the cab details, Lamp irons, more bolt heads, fire irons and perhaps safety chains on the buffer beams yet.....

Been staring at the Lawrig too, thought I was ready for paint, but now think I need to add more stuff to that too. One glaring omission is the blower pipe!

Brilliant stuff, thanks for posting Steph!
Thanks also for the link - being new around here, I didn't know that you were a member of the Forum and I haven't seen any of your photo's since the ones that appeared a while back in the American Garden Railways mag :)

You dont mess about Steph, do you? Thats one fine loco.

Super photos there thanks Steph....

I have been hard at work over the last few days... I decided I should have a proper platform and station shelter for the Light Railway.... but the station building had to be removable for the estate line and to safe guard it from the elements.

I looked around and weighed up the options for platforms, either mortar, concrete, or wood etc. I was going to use mortar but ended up with a wooden platform as I felt this suited both lines better.

I broke out the stripwood and soaked it in preservative, made up a platform and finished it off with some varnish and woodseal (as this bit stays outside). I had build the station shelter earlier... loosely based on an ALR one!

Here's some photo's of installation and clearance testing....

First up, the unchanged station area being prepared.

Platform in place....

First clearance test!

Annoying bit of twig in that last shot&o
Of course a further bit of "testing" followed...

I now need to detail the station area... fencing, seats and signs are just a few items needed. Plus the platform looks too new and shiny!I'm also toying with a water tower, possibly one of the Caine Howley ones which seem ideal for 7/8ths.

Goodness its been a while! Finally got time today to do some fiddling around with the line and run a train.... partially, a plant has blocked the line and needs moving but no time this pm:(
So here are a few quick photo's

A view of the station approach, a quiet day with nothing happening...

The latest wagon to join the fleet awaits unloading, a scratch build from wood on some bogies that I picked up somewhere for a pound!!

The tram loco taking on water.... Changes have happened to the station, a new water tower has sprung up amongst a couple of other things!

The Tram loco has been worked on too, and now sports a Russel dome, brass safety cover and cab detailing amongst other things....

Finally basking in the rare sunlight...

I don't think its turned out to bad for a loco that so far has cost under £100 to build... but it now needs a RC system putting in.....

Thats it for now....

You have a beautiful line there Steph. The whole image feels totally in scale. Nice work!

Lovely stuff again, Steph'

I especially like the shot of the halt - no trains around, just a nice rustic feel....
