Well time for a few more shots from this afternoon... this time the "yellow peril" Simplex on a train from the quarry and then taking a break in the sidings.

I was going to steam up the newly R/C'd Evelyn but it was too hot to be bothered so the i/c quarry loco's ruled the rails this pm!

Lovely shots Steph.

I love your locos, especially that blue 0-6-0, it has a real working atmosphere. Super!

The Simplex is devine, it could be shrunk from full size.

Wow! You said previously you weren't that happy with the track (being Code 332) but I think, with the deep ballasting and overgrown vegetation in places that it looks absolutely grand! That Simplex is wonderful :)

You are right James, I'm still not happy with the look of the track... I prefer code 250 and wooden sleepers, but I have to say I think it does look better this year in a lot of spots, plus its very easy to maintain!

Its just been nice to get the trains out and run these last few days, its been indoor modeling before this, plus playing with photo's and computers. Now whilst doing the latter we found this ancient battered shot of Sylvia the 0-6-0 way back in the mists of time when the railway was running (pre WW2!).....

in reality I spent too much time making this shot up:rolleyes: I think I have far to much time on my hands.....

Well surprise, an even hotter day today... the work room was so hot I gave up as my paint was drying too fast to work with. So out into the garden and a run of the revamped 7/8ths Edrig No1 "Evelyn" complete with radio control on the reverser... I'm amazed how well this works! With an all over cab I'd still add r/c to the regulator too though I think.

Anyway a few shots of a quarry train heading down the line, then back up.

Heading down through Four Lane Ends,

Then leaving the woods....

Finally stopping for water on the way back...

It was so hot there just weren't any steam plumes at all! I have also noticed that the local wildlife has detached the piping from the water tower! Job to do sorting that out next!

Well a bit of sun this pm encouraged me to finish some track laying I had been doing after I had to renew parts of the raised bed retaining walls. I recycled a load of old paving slabs to do the latter and now need to re clad them with wood, or set plants round to break up the lines (this latter idea appeals, anything to get more plants!).
All this gave me the opportunity to relay the siding area from one short stub to a longer siding to give more areas for loco's to cool etc. I have tried a bit of hand laid, wooden sleepered spiked track for this bit using Sunset Valley Ali track (this doesn't darken naturally though so I need an artificial method). I thought this was an ideal area to try this to see how it goes!

Only problem is the company who I got my ballast from has changed suppliers and now its no use as its bigger and rounder.... so I'm changing over to another all grey mix slowly I think (watch this stuff vanish too!).

Any way of course I had to test all this so I ran the battery tram loco today...she now sports a nice brass headlamp (I have build this one so I can get inside it as it will work eventually!).

All seems well so its now time to let it all settle..... the sky is very dark and it looks like it is going to throw it down!

Brilliant! Love it :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks Guys!

On the theme less is more..... here is a fun little thing I planted up this pm, I have had a small Acer and a couple of plants for ages and they needed a permanent home before winter and a large garden tub was going begging. I decided to add a tiny bit of hand spiked track to the scene. I deliberately want the sleepers to deteriorate so went easy on preservative.... but I need to tone down that ali track!

Looks a bit raw but I have high hopes it will turn out OK! It needs a rusty wagon etc though I think!

A lovely, evocative railway with some great master building work going on. Depending where you are in Derbyshire (I'm in Long Eaton), if you're in need of ballast, there is a good quarry that I last used a couple of years ago - bought quite a bit, so haven't needed to go lately, so I hope they're still operating. Take the A 515 from Ashbourne to Buxton and at Parsley Hay turn right onto a lane called The Rake. After a short distance, turn right again onto Long Rake leading towards Youlgrave and the quarry is on your right after about a mile. They sell quite a variety of different stones in sizes from 3 mm up and are very helpful. I bought a greeny-gray granite in 3-5mmwhich weathers very nicely and I think it was £2.75/£2.95 for a 10 kilo bag.
