Speed step settings, thinking of going from 14 to 128.

So as the title says, that's what I am thinking of doing.

So I am guessing that every loco chip, function chip, dcc lighting bar, will have to changed to 128, that's going to be a pain, but one I can do.
Unless someone tells me different I am guessing the point and reversing modules are not speed stepped.
There is a however, one the locos is LGB 23406 the newer Croc is MFX chipped, it was a pain to set it to DCC protocols and I struggle with getting head around Bit settings.
The instructions read as its default speed setting is 28 and its set in CV/Register 29 which is set at 6, so that indicates 28 speed steps bit 2 and digital/anologue on bit 4,
so the speed steps appear to be 14/28 bits 0/2 and nothing for 128 there is no option as I read things for 128 speed steps, or am I missing something.

Have another look at Page 13 Speed Levels, Cv29 bit for 128 speed steps is 2.

Yes I am with you that bit thing is a trcky thing to get ones head round. I once had the mad idea of making a spreadsheet to show all the possible values for CV29, decided in the end that it was a daft idea! My best solution in the end was to write down my requirement, with the but value next to it nit forgetting at the too of the column the default that I started with. Do that for all the things I needed then add up the numbers to get the bit value. Writing things down gives one the chance to double check and go back

Sorry if this sounds like teaching Granny how to suck eggs, but some newbies and possibly nit so newbies may appreciate it.
 
If you have older decoders in any of your locos, they might not support 128 steps....
 
Most old LGB factory fitted are 28 speed steps max. I run 128 where i can and 28 where 128 is not supported

Both yours and Gizzy's postes are noted, I have a 23330 (MOW tractor unit) with an older lgb/mts decoder, but that is due to be upgraded to a Massoth one.
Need to check all the relevent paperwork, which because of an family emergency had to scooped up and just dumped into an empty box. Well it's an excuse to sort of sort it up. the only potential blip may be G/e 4 4 (619) as it's sort of lgb/marklin end/start build date.
But if I carn't do 128, then maybe i'll just settle for 28.
