I've used, in descending order of choice, silver birch, hawthorn, dead magnolia ( don't prune live stuff from the tree), laburnum (but ? poisonous), various conifers and... the Xmas tree (not very realistic).
Following the tree-felling that took place up back a coupla months ago the chaps have not yet cleared the site. I don't suppose, no, that's asking too much
Right, having done a bit of investigation and phoning around, now knowing what to ask about thanks to several of the suggestions made on this thread, I think I've got a lead on somewhere I can hopefully get something suitable! May take a quick run out tomorrow and check it out, if successful then I'll report back here.

If there is a market for realistic G scale logs I may start selling them on eBay.....
In fact if I sold G scale fence pickets I'm sure I'd make a motza, they would come bundled with a wire twist around them...
