Hello,

I'm struggling to find thin electrical wire for small jobs around the railway but I'm struggling to find any in a reel etc.

Can anyone suggest a good source of electrical wire where you may shop?

Regards

Daniel

depends what gauge you need? Maplin is my usual port of call for single core multi-strand wire in various colours. I buy it in 10m lengths, but they also do 100m reels.

Hi Tramcar Trev,

Can you send me a link for the wire suplier you use? Thank you for all the replies. The difficulty I have is that I don't know the thickness of the wire and when I'm looking on screwfix and various websites it doesn't really say. I use eBay a lot and if I can get some off there, I will do!

Regards

Daniel

Many thanks for that. I've just ordered some wire from a UK supplier. I think the difficulty was that I was not specifically searching for "hookup wire" but once I searched that, I found what I was looking for. I've just ordered two 20m spools! ;) One red and the other black which should see me through for a while.

Thanks for all the replies.

A easy source is 7 core alarm cable, it's cheep 100m drum can be had for about 20 quid from a electrical wholesaler, and if you strip a length of outer jacket you get 7 cores of stranded cable all difrerent colours, perfect for most little jobs on a layout or loco repairs

Isn't alarm cable a little 'light' for this?

Cheap, yes.. But then there is hardly anything in it!
