Accucraft 28T Shay RC Conversion?

Hello,

wondered if anyone has converted one of these Shays to radio control and if so whether you would be happy to share some images.

I'm thinking servo and Fosworks receiver under the cab floor behind the dummy firebox with a waterproof 4 x AAA Lithium battery pack in the space beside the water pump.

May fit a servo to the reverser as I have done to my Decauville and Falk by replacing the Johnson bar but probably not necessary with a Shay.

Any info would be appreciated.

I'll be watching with interest as I have its near relative the 3 cyl' Mich Cal version. I bought it as with all that built in inertia I felt it could manage without RC. But with the developments by Fosworks of compact TX & RX control units the thought to add RC has become quite appealing. That and my older age My first thought would be to mount the batteries in the cab roof rather than risk drowning in water, common practice with Roundhouse locos.

As Max says, good advice about the batteries. Ease of access for the batteries always a good plan, i have 3 live steam locomotives with Fosworks RC installed and can confirm to the ease of use particularly with a nice modest sized Tx.

I should have added at the start of this post this will be my 5th Fosworks install on a live steamer............. (in addition to multiple CVP Airwire RC / DCC/ Battery conversions to Fn3 Bachmann products)

I don't particularly want the batteries under the cab roof as I normally remove it when prepping the engine - Roundhouse installed the battery holder in this location on the Davenport and I find it a bit of a nuisance (only install I haven't done - love the locomotive - you can see "Preston" on the Roundhouse customers' page).

All other installs have sealed battery packs in various locations - in the side tank of the Decauville (where the gas tank used to be), in the top space of the oil tank of the Heisler, above the water tank in the Falk & in the tank of the Fairymead - all are charged the night before running days!

Have never had a running day where the battery has been the issue - and when I finally do I'll just run another loco................
