Sandstone & Termite night pics and videos

The results look great. I guess that because they don't flicker in synch that the effect is most realistic....

Re: Sandstone & Termite night pics and videos

The 3 grandsons were over last Sunday and wanted to do some night running. It was a beautiful night with no mossies, so I agreed.
I let them put the tea lights in all the buildings and guards vans etc and the effect is pretty good. Lilyvale station at 38 secs and the fire effect in the loco at 1min 5 secs and 1 min 35 are good
effects from the tea lights. We experimented shining torches on the trains to get better videos, not very successfully.
We had a great time.
here's the video.

A good mix of shots - I like the onboard video at the end.

This is good. And they could be used in lineside buildings as well as carriages .... ;D

the shot in the video of Lilyvale station at 38 sec shows the effect of a tea light in the building. Next time I'll put a few in houses too.

I put a 4-wheel flat car in front of the loco and taped a torch to it with the camera behind - not a bad effect.
All this is just experimentation.

Re: Sandstone & Termite night pics and videos

A lovely film thanks for sharing.

I seem to have been bitten by the lighting bug.
Now I`ve added lights to Melaleuca station.  I made three `shades` from circular bits of 0.5mm styrene with aluminium foil glued inside them. I used the warm white leds for these.

I also put 3 lights inside the building - these are just normal bluish white leds.
Here`s the night-time effect:

I`m  `standardising` on using 9V NiMH rechargeable batteries for my buildings.  They claim they are 300mAh but I reckon more like 100.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2x-Durable-9V-9-Volt-300mAh-BTY-Green-Ni-Mh-Rechargeable-Battery-PPS-block-/170786981792?

So for these 6 leds, I put 2 leds in series with a 470 ohm resistor - there`s 3 of the arms in parallel for a total current of only 18 mA !

lighting makes it come to life....
You're getting the batteries at the right price....

I'm just wondering do your buildings stay on site all the time? If so maybe your local $2 shop will be able to supply some solar LED lighting for your garden with battery included... A little work with wire snipers and soldering iron would be needed though....

...and some more lights again.  I just love the effect fo these golden white leds so much - I`ve ordered another 100.
At Melaleuca I`ve added two pole lights - I built these 20 years ago and never used them. These are powered from the layout 12V supply under the baseboard as they can stay out all the time.

Then lights in Lilyvale station building - 3 leds, 9V battery.

And internal lighting in the railmotor - 4 leds.

Most of my buildings are stored under the baseboard. Don`t like solar - no need for it.
