Saturday, September 17th was the date for 2011's second Ruritanian open day. A crowd best described as "the usual suspects" was in attendance, boosted by a flying column of the Cottam Strassenbahn, to whom fraternal greetings were expressed in Esperanto.
The day began with the traditional attempt of one of Gareth's loco's to ascend Pootank Pass. Altogether now:
"The wheels on the U go round and round
round and round, round and round
The wheels on the U go round and round
But it doesn't move far"
Attendees expressed their sympathy in the customary way with hoots of derision, while Ruritania's MD craftily sold Gareth a kilo of lead shot to do the decent thing with.
Mel brought the usual small jewels from Wetton (or is it Gooey). The closer you get, the better Thomas coaches look!
From darkest Oxfordshire, Coggesrailway's sublime battery job on a Bachmann 44-tonner. Hauls like a good 'un!
DaveHub brought his work home with him in the shape of a Piko Taurus and a rake of container flats. This turned out to be the star turn of the day, for many, many wonderful reasons....
