Round Robin boxcar

Must say this was a brilliant idea by Paul. The van looks great with all the locations on it.
I'm sure this could ultimately be used to create some newsworthy publicity for the garden railways hobby. It shows how we all get on as an informal brotherhood around the world (well it will when it has finished going round). Maybe the BBC should be told about it. I understand the BBC reporter Ben Ando is supportive of model railways so he could be a good person to approach. Not sure who should do it though.

Well the boxcar went for ride today on the Worlds Oldest Operating Peir Train that has continually served the public (Guinness Book of Records) that runs along the Hythe Pier. It is 2ft gauge, powered by third rail DC and 2100ft in length.

The last pic shows the box car sat on the seat once occupied by royalty...King George VI to be exact (in june 1944).

I'm intrigued, is that really a lifebouy mounted on the rear of the loco?
New horizons for scratchbuilders with wild ideas

Well, have you ever seen an LGB box car that can swim ?
'elf 'n' safety mate....
After the LGBII Mikes-engine-fell-in-the-pond disaster of 2000andwhenever its positively mandatory on some railways.
:nail:

It most definitely is - the railway runs along the pier that juts out into Southampton Water.

A few years ago, a ship cut the pier in half (Captain drunk I think) but it's good to see the railway running again.

The flat truck is for passenger's luggage, bikes etc  as it's a regular commuter route from Hythe to Southampton

phew mark , i thought it was making it's way back to the americas and paul!!!.
still nice to see it making speed on its way round the world.:thumbup:

Final pics from me.....here on my own layout being pulled by my tram loco (built by Malcom - pbmm) and the boxcar's newest addition - a GSC pinbadge!

The boxcar is now on its way to the next recipient.....

As a footnote, and suggested by the boxcar's owner (minimans), future recipients should aim to pass the box car on within ONE WEEK in order to maintain the progress of its long journey.

Where oh where shall I go next.....Itinerary of a boxc

OK - a spell of fine weather today and time was found for a quick running session. The boxcar has now graced the tracks at Peckforton and is anxious to move on.

True Paul, though I can think of a couple of more out here to share the cost, and maybe off to Aussie. Probably not a biggie if it doesn't get down here, perhaps we could start a colonial version - I give it some thought.

NZ or OZ sounds good to me too. I concur with John's sentiments.

Re:Where oh where shall I go next.....Itinerary of a boxc

There are a few people in mainland Europe that want isn't there? perhaps before OZ it could go to one of them?

Re:Where oh where shall I go next.....Itinerary of a boxc

Yes NZ and Oz once it's done the Europe round makes sense, then back to the US perhaps.
