I’ve finished building the base for one end of my layout and I’m wondering whether I would have room to use R2 curves? Currently have R1

It does not appear that R2 curves will fit.

Measure the distance between tracks (going on the outside rail) on your loop, add the extra to the outside of each side of the curve and you will have your answer. I reckon you will be quite a few mm short.

I reckon the left side is big enough, the right not. However a chunk og 3x2 screwed onto the right hand side may just work.

You could use an R2 at the beginning of the curve either side to better transition from straight to curve. Maybe even a second R2 on one or both sides.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words so, picking up on Paul's idea, here are a R1 semicircle (inner), a R2 semicircle (outer) and, in between them, a semicircle made up of two R2 (1500) curves at the ends and four R1 (1100) curves in the centre . . .

Whether that fits your platform depends on its width (I'm surprised that no-one has asked?)

Cheers
