Pulsed smoke..........

.........on my Sumpters. I intend to fit Massoth pulsed smoke generators to both Sumpters and as both are xls powered it should be plug and play - he says very tongue in cheek. I have read the account by Mark Russell from last October but I think that was using the original LGB electronics. Anybody used these with an xl or xls board and any thoughts/comments and how long one will run from full?
Cheers,
Kim

How long is a piece of string Kim?
You *should* get a lot longer from a pulsed smoke unit than a conventional 'pot' in the chimney.. BUT, it depends on how hot you run it, how many 'chuffs' per revolution, etc.. .. ..

When they work the effect is quite nice. Setting the new ones up, with the new programming software, has been 'challenging'.

It also means at the end of a running session, you can have a considerable volume of un-burnt smoke fluid sloshing about in the loco.. Do you box your loco's, and DEFINITELY keep them upright?

Do you also have (for two loco's) £160 that is sitting doing nothing? - That is the price of a decent piece of rolling stock, another sound decoder, lots of beer! (Take your pick).

Hi Phil,
The chuffs etc should be governed by the xls and as I run mine quite slow I am hoping for a longish time between refills - currently about 20 minutesish on a 24v stack. Temperature, hopefully just a cv setting to write (by muns!). The units are a bit dear but I stopped worrying about cost in this hobby a long time ago!

24 volt units produce much more smoke than 5 volt units in my experience. Also about 20 minutes is all you will get with the fan settings at 100%!!!

I fitted pulsed unit into a 2-10-2 Hartz loco with XLS. The chuff sensor though was the factory fitted one.

Cheers Mark. Both Sumpters have 24v units at the moment, I think I will be buying one of the pulse generators then see how that goes.
