Adam1989 and I have been trying to start a new conversation since yesterday with no luck. I also tried to start conversations with Admin and muns. No luck with either.

Is this specific to some user accounts i.e is their a setting that needs to be changed? Has anyone else had this problem?

Advice gratefully received!

I just tried to send you a message and it failed to 'post'. I'll look into it.

Thank you. That's the point at which I was stopped. Preview worked OK but not post.

Interesting, it seems I cannot create one with you either. I also tries some other people but to no avail. Existing conversations seem ok though.

HI All.

Its fixed now. seems a new module that adds features to conversations adds a cool feature that totally breaks conversations being started!!!!

its been disabled till i find a proper fix.

When I saw the title, I thought that probably the easiest way to start a conversation is something like, 'Dear so-and-so ............... '

By the way, where's Zerogee these days?

Carp; didn't think of that. The chemo has certainly addled my brain. Sorry Mr Administrator sir.

Don’t you just love upgrades from suppliers that have never been properly tested!

Before I retired I worked for an IT services company where testing of applications and systems was one of our major earners. Some of the old hands in the testing division told me they that the impatience of people "wanting things NOW" was keeping he testing service going as they simply couldn't be bothered to do basic checks of applications. One of my friends in India told me that some of the flaws being found were so obvious that they would have got us fired when we started our careers in the 1970s!

Seems like many companies do only limited testing these days and then expect the users of the apps to do the debugging for them by reporting faults / workarounds.

Yup that is the way of the modern IT game, called beta testing IE get users to play with the software and hope that all the bugs are discovered. That was always going to go well!

Many of these problems start with pressure from the sales team - and (with all due respect to the Kat) in many companies the sales team rules and its budgets suffer the least.

However, I can remember buying an IT offering in the 90s - and I spent a large amount of wonga buying it as a self-employed person - that was the complete, finished article :clap: It had been produced in conjunction with a professional Quantity Surveying company i.e. professionals from the application industry not just IT, and it did everything you needed from the word 'GO'. It was brilliant, it was improved, and then it was even more brilliant.

The only time I've ever been able to say that :nod:

When with BR I worked in on TOPS both as a user and later as a specifier of new and additional enhancements. The original was bought from the States that had been using it in I think the late 50’s, we got it in the 70’s. Language was called TOPs-Tran, still I believe being used for the basic Colonel of the system. Probably now runs on a Laptop, but it worked and always has. Upgrades were strictly defined by an organisation that understood the limitations of the system and insisted on full comprehensive testing plus a beurocratic methodology for doing all the work. not sure what happens these days. I left BR in 1994, but I know TOPS still exists and has not I believe thus far and cannot be replaced.

In 1992, I was on the 'user acceptance team' for a new system we were getting in.
All went well, until I tried a little forward planning, and put an expiry of 02 in the proper field. The system spits out a message saying expiry date can not be before start date.
Of course, pooters at the time thought 02 meant 1902, but I wanted 2002. I had, independently discovered the millenium bug. I was sort of told to keep quiet about it........

We gave up on TOPS and reverted to BOTTOMS. Back On To The Old Manual System.

Yes I made a good living out of fixing that between 1998 and April 2000. I did the extra time to watch over the leap year thing and sort out all the documentation of the project and ensuring it all went safely into storage in Germany. The Americans (sponsors of the project) were very picky about documentation and the safe storage of it all, a Van Full! Wonder where it all is now, probably in a cupboard somewhere forgotten about.

I think the Millennium Bug was the most over-hyped, underwhelming world event ever.

People just used common sense, and where a programme couldn't accept the new millennium (and plenty couldn't) businesses had time to ditch it and replace it with something, usually, better

I was always curious about the rumour that if your VCR only had 2-digit years in the date, you could overcome the millennium issues by setting the date to the equivalent in 1972 (I think it was 72 - memory not so good these days). Never fond anyone who could confirm / deny this but it was one of those things I rather hoped was true!
