I've seen a couple of videos recently showing wider shots of how people's railways fit into the wider setting of the garden, so wondered if a similar video might be of interest. Although I can run my railway as a circuit or out-and-back, I prefer running end-to-end when the weather permits. Here's a passenger trip from one terminus to the other.

PS - It was uploaded as HD but for some reason seems to be showing in low-res on my computer. Can you let me know what it's like on yours, thanks?

Thanks for letting me know, John. I think it must upload in low res initially and then take a while to process it as full HD. It's now showing as HD for me - must try viewing it on the main TV to get the full benefit. I've taken to rendering videos as 720p v 1080p as it takes less time to process and upload, so was a bit worried when the video first appeared that 720p seemed to look pretty naff compared to 1080p

What a great idea for a video. It was like being a visitor invited into your backyard and introduced to the line (prior to running a train or two, I'd hope ). I especially liked the 'truthfulness' of the commentary. Comments such as 'that's where the engine shed should be but I wanted to show off my locos' and the statement at the end explaining that it's hard to hold a camera and drive a train. I can relate to that!

Maybe this could be the start of a 'series' of videos titled "Welcome to my xyz railway".
Who wants to give it a go.
 
Superb idea and I do now indeed have a view of what the PLR looks like. Certainly as your Railway was built with Operating in mind. Still a little confused about the Junctions but perhaps another look at the Vid will fill that in. Probably too busy enjoying the view of your super Garden, but Oh what a Maintenance Headache. To have plants in such close proximity is a wonderful thing, but the trimer must be in action all the time as some of the Side Swipes with overhanging Vegitation illustrated. But have you I think suggested in one of your past threads suggested there is a SWMBO in charge of all this? If so she also is to be thoroughly commended on efforts.

Think that I may do one of these Vids. My Cab Rides have assisted somewhat, but this is a furhter help to a Complex line.

Great idea Greg. I have to admit it was watching one of your videos which gave me the idea. Whilst I enjoy 'realistic' closeup lineside shots, I think it's really interesting to see how a garden railway fits into its setting.

I have to admit that overhanging trees and shrubs are a bit of a nuisance, but I think they're worth the effort. I always have a pair of secateurs in my pocket when running trains but even then I miss some - as evidenced in the video. The missus is in charge of vegetables, the rest is down to me - probably why there are more shrubs and a few perennials than anything else

You (and anyone else) is more than welcome to come and play trains anytime. However, I now have no track power so it would have to be battery or live steam (as long as you enjoy the challenge of gradients and sharp curves).

Oddly enough, I've watched it a few times too. It's like looking at my railway through a different pair of eyes. When I'm running trains I'm usually so busy checking everything is OK, I don't get the chance to just sit back and just watch a train pass by.

The video is just as good as the railway.

I've noticed over the years that there are several sorts of railway, in particular those that look real (or close to), and those that just look like they 'belong' in their surroundings. Both, I find, are quite difficult to achieve. This one manages admirably on both counts.

Wish mine did! :'(
