Piko to do new 10 coupler in G.

Piko are to release a class BR 95 tank engine next year. It is a 2-10-2 and a big blighter.
They already do this in HO in coal and oil fired versions.
Standard gauge original of course, being Piko.

That's a hefty loco, as you say Alan it's going to be a big'un in Piko's usual something-like-1:26-ish scale!

Mind you, they've set some precendents for this kind of thing with their last few big East German Diesels.
Dunno whether I'd get one - I have the BR64 Tank and the BR24 "Steppenpferd", they're nice and both just about look OK next to LGB metre gauge stuff if you're not too picky (Rule Eight etc), but this BR95 might be just a little TOO chunky for my taste - but we'll have to see when it actually comes out!

Wonder what the chassis articulation will be like, bearing in mind our recent discussions of the new LGB 0-10-0?

Think I'll have to stick with my N gauge BR95!
 
First time I went to East Germany around 1980 ish I went to Saalfeld and these beasties were running around that area being allocated to a Shed that was on the Border. Not the place to try and bunk! On the Steam Railway Tour of 2010 we tried to do the Rubiland which has one but the Snow was so bad we could not do the trip so had to settle with a Works Trip and a few pics of the 95 that is used for Specials in the line.

On the 2011 trip we did manage a trip and the noise going up the Rubeland was to be heard to be believed. Tony Streeter was literally grining from ear to ear.

This pic probably gives a feel of the british nature of this class. Sort of a Harz 2-10-2 on steroids.

Just thinking about Mike whitcombs thread on his Harzbulle, If it's around the normal Piko price, then with a NQ 2-6-2 body bash, could make a cheaper version.
 
I think you'd be better off just extending the tanks and adding the pre heater box onto the Piko model, as it's probably 1/26th ish, as in many ways it's closer than the NQ 2-6-2. The wheels have too many spokes too.

There are still a lot of differences mind you but I guess this will be around half the price ;)

The Harzbulle boiler is from the BR85 which is similar but a bit smaller than this one. Then you need to add the feed water pre-heater in front of the funnel.
 
They also have a new control system for n through to g, only 2.5 amps in its current format but good price at top slots around three and a halfish. Darren has sold a couple to small qauge users and they are raving about it. One to watch. Sorry about the thread hijack Alan!!

Looks interesting, Kim - the hand controller looks like the one that ESU released recently?

You're right on that John, esu is not a site I visit very often so just had a quick look. Had hold of the hand control on saturday and a very robust unit, for anybody running just a couple of loco's well worth a look.

It does indeed look nice, with the use of the big knob (oo-er missus...) for speed control; my only hesitation is that the rest of the controls are via the touchscreen, which as we all know can be problematic outdoors in strong sunshine (mind you, this IS Britain, so that will only be a problem about three days of the year on average!) :rofl:

Jokes aside, it's probably great for indoor use, but I'd remain to be convinced for outdoor operation.

Piko seem to be catching up a bit on pricing. I see the 2-6-2 BR64 tank now has a recommended price of £600 and if you add their own decoder and sound its £845.

OWWWWW, that's gone up a lot - I got mine from Germany with a Massoth XLS already installed, and it was about £500 all-in.....

That is the MRRP, which hardly anyone actually pays, but yes, a lot. Decoder and sound at £245 is a bit steep too.
Also - it might be in Euros but that makes little difference these days.

Not wishing to raise the bar in a political way, but Brexit has not helped us with the price of European Trains in our or any other scale.
 
Not at all Jon. Exchange rate from over 1.3 to 1.1 if your lucky. Same with the Dollar
