PIKO sand tower, it don`t look like that on the box

I need some height and a corner filled on the rebuild of part of the layout, while over at Glendale last week i noticed this sand tower kit that might just suit my requirements, opened the box when i got home and picked over the bits and yes that will do,outside last night doing some "bits"so took couple of photos, lots and lots still to do,towers, piping, ladders, walkways, delivery system rodding and chains, extra shacks/offices,the list goes on but will end up as a liquid (unsure what liquid yet) delivery site,I was`nt sure if to put in this or building topics......it is a bash so put in here, will post on further progress:):).TOWER 005.jpg TOWER 006.jpg TOWER 007.jpg TOWER 008.jpg TOWER 014.jpg TOWER 015.jpg

Sorry about the pics as the light was fading last evening so taken in haste, just an update on progress.I managed to save the cut off walkway bits from the kit top section to make two more for the sides of each tower,as the length in the kit will cover double track and spare handrail from the kit matched it all up nicely, the shed/shack at the back is a plasticard box and the smoke jack is a 00 ratio item, seems to work well and looks the part. The flat car body still needs a makeover to finish to make a low loading dock(may end up with a hoist)and as base for the second tower,,,might as well use the old body for something, still a fair bit to do to finish it off, only had first coat of paint so far, dial faces need detailing, chain for actuating arm needs fitting, will have to find some workman figures, signage needs doing, flat car body to finish, some sort of connection between the shack and tower, pipework probably, not sure yet and some more electrical trunking to be added(florist wire)oh, the lower safety ring on the main ladder needs removing as too much of a duck under, then I suppose start gluing it all together, think next update will be it in situ:):)TOWER 2 007.jpg TOWER 2 011.jpg TOWER 2 013.jpg TOWER 2 021.jpg TOWER 2 022.jpg

Very nice. So that will be for Loading the Tank Wagons, have you thought about an unloading point?

Yes I have but will depend on how much room there is when the structure is in place, going into a corner as a fill in only but thinking about it I could maybe come up with something on the flatcar revamp,as its a small depot could possibly only need one outlet as the delivery has,now you have me thinking and as your pics show wouldn`t be too much of a problem to sort;);)

So I`m easily lead so SHMBO says, therefore gave some thought to your suggestion of an unloading point and came up with the following setup, some research was needed and I simplified the system, flexihose to go to the bottom delivery valve on the car,the on the upper platform the two hoses for vapour collection and compressed air for ease of unloading, just the static earth lead to fit which clips on the car,not bothering with the track earth(lightning strikes)I suppose its dealing with petroleum products, figure is LGB with Bachmann spanners and still had some handrail from the original kit to go around the platform.signage is temporary, experimenting with wet paint and a cocktail stick on plasticard, but thanks for the thought Jon.STAINZ 001.jpg

Very nice job with all the health and safety whistles and bells. Mine is for Fuel Oil to a Power Plant so I guess that in the bad old days of East Germany such would not be bothered about. I well remember a pic that a former work collegue showed me of a class 50 (Ty???) running round a passenger Train next to some Rail Petrol Tank Wagons being unloaded, just an open top with a smaller pipe shoved in the hole no safety considerations or concern for Petrol Vapour whatsoever. Pretty scary for the 90's!

My unloading bay was pretty much a crib from a US Modelling Mag.
