UPDATED - See last post - Piko railbus wanted!!!
I've reviewed my 'wants' and focused the time period I'm interest in and the 1950s does it for me - hence a Piko railbus would be perfect...

Original post:
I'm interested in getting my hands on an LGB railbus. Is anyone looking to sell one on? Either pig nose or earlier flat one...

PM me :)

Cheers!

Re:LGB railbus?

good luck
they seem to be, like the street cars, sought after and surprinsingly pricey

and

are more so now than before

might also mention to be mindful if you buy used, as they have a rather odd drive-
center motor via drive train to geared pivoting wheel sets-
can be a bit noisy even when new-

Re:LGB railbus?

About 18 months ago I sold an immaculate (new condition) twin-motored railbus set from the mid-80's, to a cantankerous octagenerian. He did not know that LGB made the set with a motor in each car as his LGB catalogues only went back to 1993 (single motored version only with unpowered trailer car) and if not in that catalogue then LGB 'did not make it!". Anyhow, he thought, I can run it as two separate entities. Well, the string of abuse followed when he realised that it only displayed the red tail light on one car with no lighting on the adjacent ends facing each other when coupled. I advised him that the set ran prototypically as a twin car set and was not intended to be separated. The catalogue only showed the cars coupled and it was not apparent that the facing car ends did not have lighting. Has any one ever tried to reason with a cantankerous octagenerian? I regretted selling the set as soon as he opened his mouth.
Another thing he complained about was the EVA 'retarded' voltage starting system. He told me the set did not run and he had to 'fix' it. How did he fix it, well it needed more voltage to start than his normal starting LGB locomotives? I really do miss that railcar set. I still have the pignose to keep me amused. He is not getting that one.

Re:LGB railbus?

I have a piggy-nose in the Jägermeister trim, smart too. Trouble is it only starts working at 5V and I have it on a LGB shuttle unit, so fairly pointless as it starts and stops with a jerk (not me, Mel). Whopping overhang so it can't run anywhere else on the line BUT I can't bring myself to sell it, it's just so damned cute.
Grumble, I tried uploading a piccie but the site won't have it, grumble off.
JPEG reduced in IRFAN to 165KB and still no go for techies.

Re:LGB railbus?

They seem to pop up on e-bay reasonably often, I must admit they have a certain charm.

Re:LGB railbus?

Just don't fry the lights by accident like I did in mine...

Re:LGB railbus?

Thanks Nigel.
Not sure yet... the Piko ones look nice, but small (are they 1:22) compared to the Austrian locos and stock (1:20ish?). It's something to run, easily, when the weathers a bit 'inclement' and I don't want to get out all the other stock. Not even decided if it would be just lettered up in existing livery, or if I'd devise an EJ&KLR specific one. I do light the red and cream on the LGB ones.

Re:LGB railbus?

Re:LGB railbus?

Or there's plans for the pig-nosed version in this month's CM, which landed on the doorstep yesterday..

Re:LGB railbus?

Thanks for th info, links and photos guys.

I wonder if the Piko one could be modified by raising the buffers up the nose and incorporating a centre narrow gauge buffer?

Thanks for the tip Jonathan - I'll pick up CM this week :) I think GardenRail is out on Friday too... Narrow Gauge World the week after.

Still on the look out then for either LGB or Piko... PM me if you can help me out :)

As far as I understand, the Piko railcars are a standard gauge prototype modelled in 1/27 or thereabouts, for 'visual compatability' with LGB's similar SG outline stuff and NG. Given that doors and windows do tend to get a bit smaller on narrow gauges, it'd be interesting to see how both the overall dimensions and specific details scaled out it it was considered as a 1/22.5 vehicle. I also believe that they only come in sets of two (railcar+trailer) though presumably the powered vehicle can run on its own - I remember a thread about modifying the operation of the lights for running in sets of three, but can't find it right now.

Re:LGB railbus?

If I remember corectly, the LGB and Piko busses are about the same size in profile....I think someone actually posted a side by side of the two.

Re:LGB railbus?

James,

I have both ( packed up im afraid) and the LGB one is on the small size. I converted mine to battery, added buffer beams and centre buffers will try and find a pic at the weekend.

Te piko is about the same width, got one and will be converting it two a two car tram set at somepoint after moving.

The LGB is in my eyes, one of their best models. No silly deep glazing and it just looks less toy like that some of their models. Always thought that over the years you could see if there had been a change in tool shop workers. You will like either of these. Im planning on getting rid of the side biffers and close coupling my Piko. There are screws under the buffer heads ( which pull out) that hold the body on. I plan to put adverts over them to hide the. The body detail and flush glazing on the Piko has to be seen!

Re:LGB railbus?

Hi guys - funny as things go around I've found my way back to this original wanted thread...

However after some 'focusing' of the time period I want to portray I think the Piko railbus is the one I'm after!!!! It's actually Peter's video that convinced me...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbQ9...lease some capital? Please PM me if you do...
