The funny thing is, in the official Neuheiten leaflet from January, both curves were R3.

The current picture on PIKO's website, shows the inner curve is R3, the outer curve seems R5 to me.

To prove this statement:

- Look at the little piece of rail connected to the outer rail of the curved switch pictured above. It is identical to the one supplied with PIKO R5 straight switches.

- The little rail connected to the inner rail of the curved switch, is a 7.5 degree PIKO R3 curve (Art. 35214):

Having a closer look, you can see the picture of the curved switch is photoshopped, containing:
- The curved switch
- The little R3 piece
- The little R5 piece

Mind the differences in colour from both little pieces of track. Looks like they copy-pasted / edited them from the pictures I posted above to make the picture of the curved switch.

Sent a message to PIKO to clarify the used radius. I'll keep you updated!

Counting the sleepers of the inner radius track, I noted 33.

So by my reckoning, these are 900 mm or 3 ft in length!

I would want to inspect the build quality of these points, especially the wiring, given the problems reported here on GSC, before buying though....

Based on their past "customer service" I wouldn't hold your breath!

I didn't do it via the "official way", so I'll probably have a reply tomorrow.

Cunning. :D Any chance of 'poking' them to get a response about their R5 inadequacies?
They are ruining what was a potentially good product.

"Hi Mr. **.

Thanks for your hint. We intended to make it like we announced it in the "Neuheiten 2011" leaflet but we had to make some changes.

We are going to produce the new curves as follows:

Innerer Bogen: G-R3, 30° + Gleisstück G-R3. 7,5°
Äußerer Bogen: G-R5, 30° + Gleisstück G-R5, 7,5°"

Well done sir! Now, how about Piko producing a new geometry chart to show how these things will integrate with the rest of their track? Presumably the new points provide a means of linking R3 and R5 curves?

I think I made a promise here about contact with PIKO about the faulty switches, but forgot a little about it :banghead:

Can you guys provide me links to the related topics about the faulty points?

It's difficult to make curved points compliant with general geometry.

Curved points afford a wy of making significant space saving in certain places.

Even Piko's R3 is a bit tight though. I'm not suggesting that I could have improved my track layout with them, but where you are really hampered for space in a station throat or yard area, these could be a boon - even allowing for the dodgy wiring :D

The original thread is here http://www.gscalecentral.net/m137307
and there was further comment and pictures here: http://www.gscalecentral.net/m165785

It would be really good to get some comment from Piko on this.

Thanks Peter. I'll refer them to these two threads, and ask my contact person who is the best person to be contacted about this matter.

Okay, sent the e-mail this morning, and got the following reply a few minutes ago:

"Thanks for this information. I will see what I can do about it. I will forward this Message to our responsible Department and give you an answer as soon as I have one. Have a nice day."

Stay tuned ;)

Tuned and with fingers crossed! Thank you for your efforts so far.
Drifting the thread massively, have any other NL retailers made any comment about the LGB point issue?
