Piko Digital Starter set

I have a Piko Digital starter set on its way, I`ll be using it as a demo / promo unit to help showcase Digital`s many features.

Anyone on here have any experience with the Piko Digital stuff?

O.K. received this set, I'll be taking some pictures and maybe some video over the next little while. I'll let you know how it all goes. One thing I have noticed is all the rolling stock have plastic wheels.

I need to figure out this digital setup, first exposure to Digital and then I'll have to upgrade the Stainz, and Big Hauler to DCC as well, Maybe Even Thomas and Percy.

Looking forward to your sharing your experience as a newcomer to Digital. If I had the funds, I would explore this myself, and I would be a total beginner, never having played with DCC even in smaller scales, and I too would open the box and think, 'OK what next?'.

There have been many threads on here, involving those who have considerable expertise in this black art, and I read them with a mix of envy and bewilderment! So looking at DCC from the perspective of a newbie, and keeping at the lower end of the budgetary range, is something I shall enjoy - please keep us informed!

O.K. I snapped a few pictures of the engine for your enjoyment, a photographer I am not . . .







Now as far as the DCC experience, the instructions are not very precise but I muddled through and was able to run this train with little issue.

The opening screen states : PIKO Navigator by: Massoth, I assume that this is identical to the Massoth OS or perhaps has a few "Premium" features removed.

I was able to assign a number to the train, select a logo to represent the engine, from I believe it was a list of 170 +/- , the default was 28 steps, and with help from the manual I had a list of functions to try. These functions included whistles, bells, Steam hiss, brake squeal, Lights, Smoke, and a few speed pre-sets.

all in all it seems quite intuitive to get started, adding more trains and controlling them with one controller may turn out to be a little more difficult but so far I am quite pleased with all the functions.

The Better Half enjoys one function above all else: MUTE

Turns out she doesn`t enjoy the sounds I grew up with living only 200 meters from the tracks

I will hopefully have some videos over the next little while along with some better pictures.

In the interests of a harmonious relationship.. Doe the loco feature a volume control at all?
I have noticed many models are run with a more than prototypical volume!!

I have the Piko 35014 Loco decoder listed in my Massoth DCC programmer and as you say the Piko Navigator is by Massoth so I would think it is all by Massoth the same as LGB was.

I reckon you are one of the first Grailers here on the forum to have the Piko DCC set up?

So I think many here will be interested in their product and how it performs Rob....

Well I was able to this fellow some track time and I tested out the smoke feature. The smoke worked well, was a little hard to guage how much liquid to put in but I figured it out.

I took a few pictures of the controls and such.
