Piko Curved Points

And does anyone know what the geometry is ? I've had a trawl, including Pikos website, to no avail.

The outer curve is Piko R5 and the inner is Piko R3
Girt big things tho!

Top notch picture Colin. Thanks!
What are the two mini-curves and how many degrees (of a circle) is the whole shebang?

no check rails ? are they such large radius that check rails are deemed not necessary! i am very surprised !

Absolutely right
Mind you at nearly 3 feet long I wasn't going to do a close up :rolf::rolf:

I am very relieved to read that. !! After over 70 years! of railway modelling things have not changed. I have not lost my marbles yet!!

RADIUS:

Äußerer Bogen: G-R5, 37,5° + Gleisstück G-R5, 7,5°

Thanks for that. If I get the message correctly, two of these beasties back-to-back gives a 90 degree curve, inner radius Piko R3 (921.54mm), outer radius Piko R5 (1243.08mm). Crikey!

Colin - does your new point need extensive testing with a wide variety of visiting locos?

It certainly does Peter I'll let you know when it's all sorted

Just wondering have they changed anything underneath?

Different wires or screws?

In view of the history of the other Piko points I would recommend having a look under the cover plates before installing to check connections AND putting extra insulation between the cross-over wires.

If no one has posted any before I make it back home I'll have a look and post some pics if you like?
I bought some R5 points off someone who was nervous about using them and the connections were fine on them. I do however silicone grease the exposed connections on all the points I use outside regardless of their make.

I dont have a need for any at the moment but, i am sure that a number of members would be intrested following on from Piko's previous issues.

This is the answer I got from my contact at PIKO when the wiring issues were brought up the last time:

It's a problem that's already known by PIKO. We already did some changes there. Seems like the guys with this problem own some of the "older" R5 swichtes.

So, don't expect problems with these curved switches. If you do, immediately contact PIKO, or me. I will then forward it to them.

ah older new switches..all 6 month old.. explains a lot..

It' s shame they didn't bother to reply to my two emails or the UK importers emails setting out the problems.
As we bought early ones it seems we are 'expendable' as there was no offer to remedy the problem or even acknowledge to us that there were problems..
