Picture re sizing

Hm so in the past the Forum did have a limit on the “File Size“ of the Picture, that got changed but is I believe still limited. This will I assume be so that we are not filling some Server Site somewhere or even a Hard Drive with millions of Bits, Bytes or whatever on that hard drive. All logical so far, noting what Kedwards pointed out that does not quite work like that for me, but I am posting mostly from my iPad.

Where I do run into problems is where I have taken a screen shot of something on the iPad and try to Post it here, there appears to still be that limit on “File Size“. So what I do is to Edit the screen dump within the iPad. to just include the content that I want rather than all the superfluous junk around it and the File Size is then acceptable. However any pics that I now take from my iPad or iPhone are accepted for “File Size”. Incidentally any pics that I have added to my iPad from my (quite old now) Panasonic Compact Camera DMCTZ-30, then download to the Forum are also accepted for “File Size”. I wonder if the iPad is doing fancy things with them pics?

Not what you want for you PC guys, but by the looks of things what Kedwards is doing should be the answer to the rest of you none iPad guys.

Hm just went back to other posts and saw the Kedwards solution works on iPad and so it does, well to a point where I would expect the pic below to blow me out on “File Size” it accepted it. Hm I wonder if in certain cases the Forum is changing automatically to what it wants as I would Expected the image below to fail. Clearly there is more going on here than I know or understand. Still so long as it works!48AD25C2-22D3-4EDC-99B6-647A71F4A4BF.png

The forum.

I just click on the 'Insert Image' icon, drag and drop a picture into the area where it says Drop Image and then click on the inserted picture. Scroll down and you will see this dialogue box.

The crossed arrows is the picture re-sizer. When you click on it, it says Auto. I type 800 in for the picture width, leave the height blank and click on Update.

I am totally puzzled - I don't see anything like those symbols or information when I'm posting a pic (from my PC)

Mike, you use this at the top of the entry screen rather than the ‘Attach files below’ at the bottom of the screen. Then the box shown appears apparently, except I have never seen the resize option as yet.

Following on, when picture uploaded and on the screen, (Logged in as yourself when creating your own posts, or in edit mode if revisiting a post to make changes), click on the picture and the resize option appears as in the second picture.

Thanks both for your replies. I think I'll stick to MS Picture Manager - when I click on the symbol it's asking me for the size! At least with the MS stuff you have a number of options to resize with.

Still too big in my opinion... have to use all the screen to show it... not everyone has a large high resolution screen.

On my website, when I started in earnest 10 years ago, people even complained about 800 x 600 as being too big... many forums at the time resized in PIXELS about half that.

Now 10 years later, I try not to post over that size, or show a thumbnail and then allow people to click to get the larger image.

Greg

p.s. out of curiosity, what size did you pick for the image above?

Looking at the photo on my iPad in portrait the picture is fine, auto resizes to fit the screen.

yes, on THIS forum, which has some of the best software, it resizes, but post that picture on MyLargeScale or LargeScaleCentral and you get a horizontal scroll bar and part of the picture off screen.

In general not a good practice to go much over 1k horizontally.

I read quite a few forums, and I do not want to have to remember rules for pictures individually for each forum.

That's why I said "in my opinion", as opposed to "WTF?"

Greg - I haven't a clue to be honest! I just thought I'd try to use the "Forum". Ex camera, it was 1280x960 or 441.7Kb. I'm a dunce when it comes to things like that!
