I took these pictures of this small iconic layout when it was at the NG Show in Swanley. I feel it is just the thing being just 2 R1 Points, 2 R1 Curves and some Straights. Plus additional straights for the Fiddle Yard. If you have nit got the space to replicate this Little Layout, then G is probably not your thing. I would however change 1 of the R1 Curves for a Third Point to give an on stage as it were siding.

It has appeared in a Magazine at some stage, but sorry cant remember when or what Mag it was.

Of course it could be your layout? If so perhaps a bit more of the background would be of interest to myself and probably members of this Forum.

I like the overgrown trackwork effect, certainly helps to reduce the "size" of the LGB rail.

When was it at Swanley? I don't remember seeing it at the last ExpoNG - shame if it was hiding in a corner and I missed it!

I love these small layouts. Think about the detail one could put into such a layout. Especially in our scale.

Well listed Arthur, even more pics of this superb little line. As Paul says at Swanley 4 or 5 Years ago. So you did not miss it last Year NTP.

The the backdrop is fantastic, I have trying to think of a way I could incorporate one as a background to my station area outdoors and make it look convincing, but I have yet to come up with an answer ( or picture for the backdrop) :-[

Friend of mine had Port on his Railway, to give a Sea and Land Background he just painted some Green and Blue onto a piece of Hardboard. This was just plonked behind the station. Not very elegant, BUT it was considerably better than a Brown Fence Panel. Sorry I never took any pictures of it. It did last surprisingly well, a bit warped but well hey ho.

Someone had a photo of a harbour printed on to one of those PVC advertising banners - was not too costly. I think it got in to garden Rail or similar.

I used vinyl banners that are weatherproof on my Süd Harz layout, edge to edge printing and I used images found on the net blown up. Yourdesign.co.uk do them under banners and I just sent them the image rather than upload stating what I wanted. They sent a proof image and away we went.

I have to say that Weatherproof Banners are the way to go. I have a local tame Printer that can supply them. Forgot completely about it till you guys mentioned it. Will have to investigate, but first I need another Trip to the Harz!

Weird, I made a post to this thread a short while back and it seems to have disappeared - so here we go again:

Does anyone know the approx. overall dimensions of this layout, both the scenic section and the fiddle yard? Not looking for an accurate figure, just a rough guesstimate; it's hard to tell from the pics as none of them show the entire layout in one shot, and there is only one partially-obscured pic on the site link that shows the fiddle yard part at all.....

Thanks!

Jon.

Well as a guestimate LGB Track Lengths at 30cm Each.
25cm mm plus a bit End of Station, perhaps 300cm with Stops
30cm R1 Point
60cm 2 Straights same as 2 R1 Curves in Run Round
30cm R1 Point
75cm guestimate for Fiddle Yard based on Loco and 2 Vehicles shown in Station
Probably about 2 Metres Total. With just around 18inches. I base that on the fact that you can get Double Track onto 12inches Just.

I stand to be corrected on those guestimates.
