I have just had a bit of a play with this and I seems quite an easy way to design a circuit if you are that way inclined.

http://fritzing.org/home/

Bit of mucking around to load it onto WIN10 (64 bit) but not really that bad if you exercise a bit of patience.

I just followed this and it worked.

I have tried making a schematic and it automatically shows it on a breadboard which can be transferred to vero/strip board.

I think I can see some use for this. Will try it on my Mac, hopefully will not have any mucking about with it. Have to say if I get those sort of problems I am soon inclined to loose interest!

That looks good I might be able to use that with my picaxe projects.
How do you put non picaxe components onto the board eg transistors and analogue ICs?

I recently designed and built a board to control some flashing LEDs for an N scale model. PIC microprocessor controlled.

I used the free DesignSpark software to draw out the circuit and design the PCB https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/pcb-software

I etched the PCB myself as I still had some ferric chloride and PCB iron-on transfer paper kicking around from a project last touched years ago. It wasn't 100% perfect transfer to the copper and needed a few touches with a marker pen as you can see, but works fine.

(best viewed full screen otherwise the rooftop LEDs don't show up!)
