Joined up to track in the new tunnel

the last section of the bridge, I used part of a paving slab for the back, and arch dividers

Still needs top doing,

but couldn't resist getting on with the track laying

First train on track testing, Thomas Ernest with one bogie open

The track geometry, the curves, straights, distance for clearances from the cliffs has more aless been set, just needs testing in case it needs adjusting.

Then the fettling where the track goes from level to incline needs perhaps a little shimming for smooth running

Then when all is OK

ballasting can take place

Round the corner

Shall have to give some of these locations names

This shelf bit? Cupressus Pass? Cypress Pass

No dosent have the right ring to it

How about Elwoods Pass

( after Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ( Ellwood's Gold False Cypress )

And thro the new tunnel back onto the older track system

Further testing

The open bogie had a fair bit of play on the bogies,

so automatic compensation

But taller bogie stock would roll too much it they had that much slack in the bogie pivots

So test with this bogie coach, no compensation, rigid bogies will show up any twist in the track

Re: Options for avoiding a sharp corner, Also on a severe gradient ( Hind sight is wonderful)

And it did

bogie tends to come off on curves to side where track is lower

as it did here

So pack that side with slate shimming

under the sleeper ends

Re: Options for avoiding a sharp corner, Also on a severe gradient ( Hind sight is wonderful)

So now it stays on the track

So next up try the Garratt

Re: Options for avoiding a sharp corner, Also on a severe gradient ( Hind sight is wonderful)

May have to slew the track a bit there,

Its alright at low speeds, but, if it rocks at higher speeds it might just foul the cliff face

& at the moment it would be easier to move the track than to take a chunk out of the cliff face

Lifted a section of track to finish bed on last part of bridge

Over to the left

As the liner was partly filled with overnight rain, I topped it up to overflow to check levels

Allowing for packing on weir lip, bringinging up the level about 1cm, I think it looks about right

Will need liner hiding with a layer of hypertuffa & a few rocks

And what plants could I put in there, that would not be too overscale

Duckweed is the only one that springs to mind,

BUT with that its all or nothing Artificial?

Re: Options for avoiding a sharp corner, Also on a severe gradient ( Hind sight is wonderful)

Before I applied Hypertuffa to the cliffs below the track,

I wanted to do something different from a plain, uniform line along the outside edge

So I broke up some stone with a lump hammer, and set the bits on edge in some stiff mortar

The idea being that when viewed from the track, the natural rock showed.

But the outside would be blended into the lower cliff face with the hypertuffa
