Old Fornay to DCC

I recently was given a rather neglected Fornay. Inspection showed it was basicaly all there but was a 3 pin gearbox. I have done conversions to DCC using the insulate the pin and solder to the motor method, but the last 1 I did was a nightmare.
So this shows what I have done this time. I have only shown the gearbox as the model dismantling is not particularly interesting. Here goes:

First, a gearbox in bits

Next I drilled a hole to math the 1 nearest the motor on the other side

I then made copies (mirror images) of the contact wires from 1.5mm solid copper cable

I cut the top 1 shorter to ensure it could not touch the pick up contact if it turned.

There's more;)

The connectors just clear the motor

next is to drill a hole in the top cover of the gearbox

And re-assemble

Thththththat's all folks

Hope this is helpful to folks. I think it is a fairly easy method of converting old style gearboxes but I have not checked to see if it would work for all.

I've just discovered that this method has been done before. There's me thinking that I had made a world saving discovery. Oh well
