yes i checked the thread, but the link for some reason is not working, i get a page not available.Did you check the links posted this morning to your “Identification Please” thread? They point you to some detailed info on how to dismantle a Stainz
D‘Oh! Just realised it was the link I pointed you to that doesn’t work - it used to, honestly - worth flagging up with the Mods.Odd, I just checked the link from Shed and it took me straight to the website with the instructions. Sorry they didn’t work for you.
No Problem your only trying to help me computers are alaw unto themselves.D‘Oh! Just realised it was the link I pointed you to that doesn’t work - it used to, honestly - worth flagging up with the Mods.
The Patient's laying down in a Darkened room i think."OK what is the secret of taking apart the Stainz"
A huge amount of patience.....![]()
Especially when trying to get the cab past the blasted driver’s arm!"OK what is the secret of taking apart the Stainz"

Yes the driver needs to be h-armlessEspecially when trying to get the cab past the blasted driver’s arm!
Try the link to the Waltons Models web site from Shed. They cover boiler removal and separation pretty wellI like how they say "Remove the Boiler" that is what i am trying to do lol i have followed all the other stages, its always great when instructions are written by people who know, i must need an iddiots guide
Thanks Phill its knowing where to disasemble and where to add just that bit of extra pressure without breaking bits. They are a little like one of those 3D wooden puzzles..
Hope the above links have helped?
The pipes either side of the smoke box, pull out from the chassis.
The water filler funnel, pulls out at the bottom, and the? Safety valve-thing? In the front of the cab, pulls out of the cab, and up out of the boiler.
I *think* that is it?
The boiler is then squeezed/twisted, to separate it from the cab..
If you do it, the first time, without any loss of blood, I think you can give yourself a pat on the back.
PhilP
well its only taken me 40 years to get there, i hope it doesnt take 40 years to put it back together i will be 118 by then. lolIt’s a bit like a rite of passage - they say you have to own an Alfa Romeo to be a true petrol head, and in our world I guess once you’ve taken a Stainz apart you can truly consider yourself to be a garden railroader!
