They over heated when used any where near the claimed 2.5 amp capacity, (by near i mean anything over an amp) i still have an email from Gaugemaster somewhere discussing the issue, Gaugemasters solutions to the issue where farcical it basically consisted of giving the controller a rest. I gave up in the end and spent the extra, Neil of this forum built me a fantastic 5 amp jobbie that worked perfect up untill i went DCC.
