Well a few weeks have passed and the CFR now has two Playmobil locomotives.

I was offered the electrickery bits from one of these and have installed it in an old metal bodied Salem Models diesel - here's the (very) short test video;

Steamskip, no problems at all. Four controllers, four locomotives all running separately. Great fun. I have been running two locomotives together off one controller.

Hobo, that's a pretty good use of the Playmobil gear. I like that Salem diesel.
