My Shark Build

Rather than hijack Maybach's thread I thought I 'd show how I'm doing my Shark. Like him, I am using FA trucks. I tried using the Aristo frame, but the trucks set too far below the body. I got a piece of 1/8" plastic and cut holes for the trucks pivots as is done for the E-8 frame. This eliminates the bump on the bottom of old FA frames. I was happy with how it sat. I am using parts of the E-8's interior for the seats/controls. I had to cut it down some to fit. Also the light board will be used, it has a two bulb blinking headlight, it is on some long wires, so I can fit it up inside. Current plan anyway! Hot today, so will stay inside and suck freon and work on the Shark.

Nice work Jerry
Be nice to see some pic's Pete of your finished shark

I finally got back to the Shark. I sprayed the blue a couple of months ago but the D&H color scheme held me up for awhile. My wife cut the yellow stripe from vinyl(she used to have a sign shop). I used it as a guide for my taping off the colors. Clear frisket film was used for the curve, since I could see through it and cut near the yellow curve. I still need to paint the etched grills, get the lights in and the interior. Stan did the decals for me a LONG time ago.

You have done a great job there Jerry, I think she will really come to life when you put the grills on and do the little details.
Cheers

I picked up these wood cars/locomotive at a auction of a closed restaurant. THey had been on the wall for years, gathering grease/dust, as you can see from the top photo. He built them in 1/32nd scale. I cleaned them up(bottom pix) and thought they would go okay with the Shark. I'm fitting some passenger trucks and metal wheels, which will raise it up some and look about right-to me anyway!

Very beautiful, particularly in this artistic paint scheme.

Nice Jerry.

I got the windows and interior in the Shark and the couplers mounted. I have a Mars light in, guess these pictures don't show that. Handles are bent and painted. Front decal yet to put on and the grills and horns. So getting there.....

Looking very nice Jerry

I got the grills installed on one side. Interior is in and the glass is cut to fit the openings. Handrails installed as is the Mars light. I lined the front recess with metal duct tape, makes a nice reflector. Still need to get some glass over it. Decals are on, as you can see. Just the horns and grills on the other side.

I had a good run with the Shark the other day. The wood passenger cars I got at a restaurant auction(they were on the wall for decorations) pulled well. I made D&H decals for them also and put metal wheels also. One axle on each car has a ball bearing electrical pickup that feeds up to the Shark, so good contact via track power.

I put a flashing red LED in the observation car and got the Drumhead from ebay, he'll make any type you want.

Thanks Pete. For the window glazing I used heavy plastic that was on a package of something else that I bought. I traced off the window on a piece of paper, cut the plastic, then sanded and fiddled with it till it fit in okay. If you are doing D&H be aware that you have to have some body color on the back third of the side window, it is not all glass. To mount the horns I drilled a small hole in the bottom for a piece of wire and attached them with that through a hole I drilled. That was done after these pictures.

Any other Shark builder's out there someplace? I think about 25 were sold, so I'd think someone else is working on one, like to see what you've done!
