The conversion is very interesting and inovative. I used the Sprats on my 00 years ago and found them to be very good and reliable. Just a few points:-
Are the 0 Gauge ones robust enough for long trains in G?
I think that full conversion I.E. 2 for each vehicle should be used, this would allow for reverse loops.
I think that it would not be difficult and certainly cheeper to fabricate your own in G from wire.
Thoughts welcome on my thoughts!

You have given me food for thought on a slightly different approach. If a piece of iron were fastened to the existing hook, on the LGB coupler, an electro magnet could be placed in the track. Thus there would be no need to modify the existing couplers.
