Hi I have just purchased a Massoth digital pulsed smoke unit from Garden Rail Outlet!
Fitted it into my LGB Sumpter Valley Mallet with factory fitted sound and decoder. All works however the sound is factory set to 2 chuffs per revolution and the pulsed smoke unit is producing 4 chuffs per revolution. I have tried altering the CV's and the DIP switches but cannot seem to change the pulsed smoke units 4 chuffs? Nothing seems to make any difference? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mark

You will probably need to disconnect each decoder, and make programming changes to each individually..
Also, is there a 'chuff sensor' in the loco? - Or the CV value set for one?? Some settings are mutually exclusive.

I am programming them individually and yes there is a chuff wheel sensor in the loco. If seems that I can change the CV settings on the smoke unit but this seems to have no effect on the operation? Any idea's? I assume that I should be able to make the smoke unit produce 2 puffs of smoke per wheel revolution to tie in with the sound unit?

How have you connected it? is the pulse generator connected to the smoke unit and the pulse output connected to the sound unit so that the same pulse generator feeds both smoke and sound units?

CV50 should be set to 4 to sue the dip switch settings or to 2 for for Steam with 2 pulses/rev.

I have now got the smoke unit to produce 2 chuffs per cycle by setting CV50 to 2 but the loco sound is now 1 chuff per cycle. Any idea's?

I now have the chuff sounds syncronised to the smoke puffs! I did what I did with my LGB 2-10-2 DR loco and tapped a parallel link off the drive wheel pulse generator rather than run through the smoke generator unit. However I have some more questions;
1. On initially moving the loco from a standstill there is a very long puff of smoke until the pulse generator kicks in. Is it possible to reduce this time period?
2. The fan idle speed seems high even when CV61 is set at "0". Is this normal?
3. CV62 fan speed start up - what exactly does this do?
4. CV64 fan speed roll out - what exactly does this do?

Also is it possible to reduce the volume of smoke as an awful lot of smoke is being generated or is the smoke purely controlled by the fan speed?

Not got paperwork here, but you can control fan temp/voltage, as well as fan speed.. I slow the fan when the loco is stationary.
If you were to stop the fan (don't think you can?) the unit may overheat, and shutdown

Does anybody know how to control the heating element temperature? I believe that you can but cannot find anything relating to this in the instructions? I assume that it is by altering a CV value so which one?

I might have confused this with a CV to boost the temp at startup?? - Might be thinking of a different make/model.

The pulsed smoke generator that I have is Massoth 8413501. The instructions mention CV 110 setting a preheating feature for the heating element. I don't think though that this actually controls the element temperature during normal operation?
