About three or so years ago I did a make over of the Arrowhead town ship but it still remained a lumber town with the saw mill being the biggest industry. Arrowhead was at the end of a shuttle line but as I had introduced the option of DCC power to the mainline, I changed the shuttle into a reverse loop at both ends of the line so that it could also run on DCC. There was also a spur introduced at Arrowhead to allow shuttling between the saw-mill at Pointrock town and the one in Arrowhead.

AS IT WAS BEFORE TRANSFORMATION OF INDUSTRY:

TOO MUCH WOOD.......

I began to think of changing one of the saw-mill towns. Two saw-mills on one layout was one too many!

I was fortunate to be able to save a whole set of scratch built drift-mine buildings from being thrown into a skip. The structures were built by Mike Garforth for his indoor layout. He was clearing it all out to embark on a ‘N’ scale layout.

To enable me to use them out side I had to re-roof them, re-back them with foam board, treat all of the wood with waterproofing preservative and make impermeable bases.

I also had to change dimensions of some of the buildings, build extra sections and add mote depth. The arrangement of the buildings also needed to fit the area. The tungsten lighting was replaced with leds.

Mike had also included a GN15 railway running along the top deck which had to be altered to the new arrangement. I rewired the power using an 22vAC to 12 DC pcb together with a timed shuttle control.

Quite stunning but don't you think you're pandering to this new era of "Trumpism", what with the resurection of the local coal mining industry ? ;)

Why not?? ;)
(considering the era it is set it, that is) :giggle::giggle:

So, having 'raped' the surface of natural resources (trees), you are now going on the plunder Mother Earth of her mineral wealth??
A certain 'billionaire' would be proud of you!

Parp!...... a small trump :D

Seven year-old Grandson's face lights-up every time his name is mentioned, and he giggles!
There again, I think all seven year-old boys can be 'potty-mouths'! :giggle::giggle:

He is still a little too young to make an innuendo of Trump's daughters' name..

Well, someone's been a busy beaver - spectacular :clap::clap::clap:

I was planning on introducing a small settlement on the WWNR but a couple of plastic kits and a handful of 1:24 vehicles is about my limit :nod::nod::nod:

As usual great work. An imposing facade. O scale tips?
I also like Annie's. Nice, and unusual to see on g layouts.

It all makes sense now, the penny's dropped - the reason that the model has to be so large is that it conceals the entrance to Mike's nuclear bunker

I love the modeling, both of the lumber and coal operations. Just like in the real world, you've moved up to the coal standard. What?

Let's face it, modeling those mineral raping industries is more fun than plopping some windmills on your layout.....LOL

Oh, I don't know..
I liked the idea of the 'Aero' windmills so much, I looked into getting some sent over here. - I found someone willing to source a quantity, and ship them..

Weight, price to ship, and 20% tax on the lot, killed the idea, unfortunately.

Thanks lads...... now to revamp Pointrock township. The bushes that have grown even more over the town and sawmill are to be cut back a little to enable a complete re-plan...

While on the one hand we can't resist a good josh, both of these townscenes represent a significant amount of labour, and are very realistic - they could even put Lazy Grange Bay in the shade :cool::cool:

I can't imagine no one over there makes them.
