Loksound decoder is voiceless

I have a Fleischmann H0 loco equipped with Esu Loksound decoder, but no sound is coming. The loco runs perfectly and the lights are working correctly too. I don't have the decoder manual and, since the loco came new with the decoder, I have gone through Esu's website. It was purchased in 2003 and I assume it is a V-3 decoder. (I am using my Massoth Central Unit with the Navigator on the programming track).
The problem is that I don't know which CV's should be checked and which values should be assigned. Is there a protection on the cv's, I mean are the cv's locked or can you just modify the value in a cv?

I would try if you can to see if the speaker connections are all good in the first instance.

Thanks, Greg. In fact, the loco is one I sold in 2003 new to a customer of my shop. It was a Fleischmann originally equipped with a loksound decoder and therefore, the manual is made by Fleischmann and is very short. I'll try the Esu forum.

Another solution would be to reset the decoder to factory values and see what happens. My customer who became a friend in the meantime, says he did not change the settings so I'll go ahead.

I've had some bad experiences with full resets on boards with sound files. On some Zimos I got, there were remappings of various functions as delivered to me, and reset basically turned a bunch of stuff off.

I am not an Esu expert so will be interested to see what you find.

Greg

As Greg already mentioned, you need the ESU Installation Manual which is available at their Website esu.eu You should never start messing with CVs on any DCC decoder without first consulting the specific guide for it, other than CV1 Address. If you don't already have it, you should also get the F Key Listing for the installed sound file in the decoder which is also available from the ESU Website's sound file library.

I would not do a reset until you exhaust all other options..........there will be settings changed that will be a real challenge to set correctly without using an ESU LokProgrammer. The LokProgrammer is required to load sound files into decoders, and setting up the decoder such as F Key assignments, dimming the voltage for lights/smoker/other devices, adjusting individual sound levels, changing the individual sound options such as the whistle embedded in the sound file, etc. If you can't get the sound to reactivate after trying all the various settings using a LokProgrammer, the next option would be to reinstall the sound file, but then you'll then need to set up the decoder as a new install such as diming lights, etc. And you'll use that F Key Listing to do so.

May be irrelevant but I use ESU sound decoders in some of my G scale engines. Could not get the sound to work till I discovered it is switched on and off with F1 function.

As I've already posted, hobbyists need to get and use the F Key Listing for the applicable ESU sound file to understand their assigned functions. You can get the F Key Listing for the assigned ESU sound file from the ESU Website's Download "Sounds" page. Most of the sound files I install into ESU LokSound 5XL DCC sound decoders use F8, but some use F1.

Thanks to all who contributed to the subject. I need to apologize for not answering earlier but I overlooked it due to private problems. I am aware of the key functions, especially since my customer uses an Intellibox unit and the fact is that the function worked previously. I had not read the message about not resetting the decoder yet and did reset it but with no better result. Since the wires are intact, I guess it can only be a problem with the speaker itself. In the meantime I have given back the loco to my customer, advising him to bring it to a specialist.
