ESU 50709 & 50702 LED strip lighting

It's workbench time since we've had a bunch of rain the past few days, & lots by Alberta standards - peanuts for you folks on the other side of the pond tho. I'm installing ESU LED strip lights, incl a power pack capacitor, in Bachmann J&S coaches taking the simple 50702 cutting it & then connecting it to the smart (w/decoder) 50709 LED strip, to fit the entire coach length - all goes well & can get both sections to light nicely. Initially the addtl. 6 LEDS on the 50702 were noticeably brighter, & far too bright - added a 5Kohm trim pot & boy what a perfect colour match. However haven't been able to successfully change any CV to get a more appropriate oil lamp/candle type flicker. I don't have a ESU Lokprogrammer or power booster so only have my NCE PROCAB using a CS02 command station (w/auto current limit output) regardless I managed to change various CVs to confirm write - using both PoM ( w/100ohm 5W resistor across the track) & Program Track modes. With the help of various AI's Google & the not so helpful ChatGPT it appears that the decoder isn't that sophisticated re lighting options & it wasn't the limitations of using my PROCAB throttle. Anyone got any insights or more success than me with these ESU lighting strips? Asking before I reassemble & modify the remains 5 coaches.
