Live Steam

Hello all,

I'm in the market for any live steam locomotives that based on 2' 6" prototypes, or similar. So something like an Accucraft Leader, Excelsior, Joan...anything like that. I think Countess might be a little out of my price range at first!

Preferably RC, and preferably 45mm (good job I'm in the right place for that)!

Thanks :D

Hi Spud(?)
Do you monitor the secondhand sections of GRS, Garden Railway Centres, Glendale Junction and KGR? Your requirements are quite specific but you might find something coming up on one of these sites from time to time. You might pay slightly over the odds at GRS but the others tend to be quite reasonable - I think. I'm no connoisseur of live steam myself but I'm sure others on here would advise where the most cost effective source might be.

Add in Anything Narrow Gauge and Chuffed2Bits. Both good dealers in 2nd hand live steam. Along with the others mentioned. Have dealt with all mentioned and find them above board with good honest stock.

That reminds me - Steve at Back2Bay6 sometimes has secondhand steamers for sale as well - and he's a good bloke to deal with.

I folks, thanks for all the suggestions. I've been keeping an eye on most of those, as well as evil bay, but some I'd not heard of.

I've seen that Joan but it's just fractionally out of my allotted budget...the future Mrs is very hot on what I can spend on my loco with our wedding 5 months away...

To be honest you are unlikely to find a R/C controlled prototypical at that price if in reasonable condition. It may be better to go for a freelance model or one without R/C and then fit it later when you have more cash. In the UK it is work looking for non-adjustable gauge locos as the 45mm only models sell for less usually.

It's an aspiration/practically balance. In reality I'm looking more at the Edrig, Ragleth end of the Accurcraft market, but you don't go asking for that!

There is a Ruby ending on ebay in 30 minutes that has no bids and a starting price of £300.
