I secured a gen1 Lionel Hogwarts Express a while back which I've started converting to a caricature of a GWR Mogul.

Thankfully because it's the early version, no regauging is necessary.

So it's off with the accoutrements and gut the interior.
The cab steps have been shortened, the second axle in the front pony removed and the smokebox door tidied up. The loco shell was filled where necessary

The pink stuff on the smokebox door is just a latex mask to protect the numbering as im not sure if i want to retain it or not at the moment.

The battery compartment in the tender was trimmed back to accommodate an 11.1v li-ion battery and a power switch wired in to the existing Tamiya connector.

The original speaker which sits behind the firebox was the wrong impedance for the Railpro LM-3S I was going to install, so that was changed out for a correct one in the same diameter.

The tender was sprayed with some Tamiya fine detail primer, then Brooklands Green

Next up wiring everything up, spraying the loco and fitting some details.

The coach is beyond help, so I suspect the 3d-printwd experiment will be pressed into service.

More to come as I progress...

A bit more progress on the Mogul, which is the result of a lot of little things (or so it seems!)

Steam chests and end caps were designed and printed, to give the front a bit more dimension. The rods and crossheads are in the process of being painted, the body and chimney have been sprayed and the cab interior painted a bit.
The Railpro has been installed and programmed too.
Now waiting on some Fox transfers, vacuum hoses and screw couplings

The tender has been painted (i stupidly painted the top green too, which i noticed as i glued in a coal load!) This will need to be resprayed black, then couplings and transfers applied.

I wouldn't have thought so, as it is actually sold as a toy. Mind you, now I've said that, some will come forward with one!

Hm think someone is doing one for Scale 1 fine or am I getting confused with the 0 Gauge one that has recently been announced?

It lives (cue evil laughter). The Mogul caricature gets a sound and motion test. I've also mocked up the 3D printed 1:32 coaches behind it for scale (ignore the bogie - it's all I had to hand. I must get the rest of the GWR coach printed too!)

First test

Good to see your Hogwarts with a G1 Coach, shows the size of the Mogul donor is pretty well spot on for 1:32 or thereabouts. When I get round to doing mine the tender will be in for a serious chop down, pretty sure that the 43xx et all all had much smaller Tenders (lower) though I am open to correction on this.

The 73XX/93XX class Tended to have the 3500 gallon tender as sheen below
The preserved 7325 at the Severn Valley has run with a more modern version of that tender similar to that supplied if you were to cut it down just below the rivet line a little up from the base of the tender
Personally I wouldn’t be too hung up as you can go on forever and in the end doing so much work you might as well have built fro scratch
There’s plenty of images if you look via the usual search engines
Most impressed with the conversion so far

Not the set but Accucraft have advertised a Live Steam one 1:32 scale for Q1 2021 at around £2500. A good price I reckon looking at the spec.
