I think that some of the confusion that exists with regard to Piko buffers, is due to the comercial decision to compromise prototypical authenticity in order to allow narrow gauge and standard gauge stock to run together on 600mm radius, 45mm gauge curves.

This is why they supply both single and double buffer beams with some of their products - unfortunately, the downside of this compromise is that they have to use different scales on the same model.

For example - their BR132 standard gauge loco uses their normal 1:22.5 scale for cross-sectional dimensions and 1:29 for longitudinal dimensions, which results in a model of a particularly hansome prototype looking somewhat 'dumpy' due to the equivalent of 15 feet missing from its overall length.
