LGB new to this DCC help?

Well chaps …. The emotion L has arrived.
Sadly my lovely dog Houston 13:5 years passed away Friday.
And that’s awful Ashe liked to follow the train with a look of disgust….xx

So I’m reading the instructions and if you have any advice re speed setting and so on let me know xxx
Sorry to hear about your dog, I lost Poppy my Goldie in February and understand the pain you will be going through.

Sorry to hear about Houston, they become 'family' very quickly..

From what has been said, you should be good to go, I believe?

PhilP.
Thanks Phil I’m sure he would be pleased at it goes passed his little grave.
You guys have been wonderful… I feel confident with the decider choice. Think I may rebrand the loco Houston express xxx

Going tomorrow to get it put in.
I’m guessing Theo wires that say are track are positive negative to the pick ups and the same for motor.
X I had James set down the lights and smoke to 5v
Hope that’s good.
Going to get a lesson in programming it…..

H couldn’t have been loved more he lived like a princess and made great friends two came round today with flowers and cards xxx

Bless Poppie. They just lift us up.
And the amount of steam train trips he took made me smile together.
Part of the reason to be in the garden with the train is our chums inc dog ones. Xx

You can add sound to the Massoth eMotion L decoder for £50 by connecting a sound module via the SUSI connector on the decoder and connecting the loco's speaker to the module.

I've used the mXion SX6 module in three locos. Ordered direct from the manufacturer in Germany. It's tiny and fits easily into the boiler.

This great news chum. Is it still available as James said they are starting to stop making seperate sound decoders.

Could maybe do a Houston Station - Slaters do lettering packs - https://slatersplastikard.com/assets/pdfs/AlphabetFlyer.pdf
1113 - 13.5mm high station nameboard lettering (scale 12” lettering in “G” Scale)

The Wiring should all be handled by the pins that why we recommended the decoder we did.

That's news to me. Do you mean Massoth are stopping making separate sound modules?

The mXion SX6 SUSI sound module is made by Micron Dynamics which is a different company from Massoth. mXion sound profiles are licensed from Dietz/Uhlenbrock.

That’s a cute idea…. And a great tip… he would like be that and as he now his little grave on the proposed line… perfect xxx

A Houston station is a great idea. Oh wait I named him this so I could yell over the park…” come in Houston Houston come in… ❤️

Hi it’s what James mentioned… I don’t think it’s straight away but I guess the market may be changing as new locos are bought with it all built in.
I’m new to this so I can only learn and it was a point made that sort of makes sense.
Like I say it’s not straight away.

For your next decoder you might consider a Massoth eMOTION LS Sound Decoder. Gartenbahn has it listed at ₤145. It will provide driving, lights, smoke and sound. you can select from many sound ooptions.

Info on it shown here: AllAboutLGB: Massoth eMOTION LS Sound Decoder

The emotional L will do the lights and smoke just not the sound.
In the end we decided this is my first loco and yes a bit basic
So we decided to learn on this one as my base loco and when I go to the next one take that step.
I’m told I can expand to an extra sound decoder…. Although that may be changing.
So for £62 I can learn and see how to expand.
Still very excited as my car rages have lights so to see them lit up fully will be great.
Got great advise from you guys so not going buffer yet
As someone pointed out find the weak bits on the layout before you buffer.
That makes so much sense.

Going to spray up my loco to looked weathered and get on with buildings x
I’m sure Houston will be watching

Carriages

Bad text thumb

So ext question.
I have a caboose with green red wing lanterns
How do I light them and the caboose?
I have lights in my carriages with metal wheels I assume it’s a similar idea but is there a kit?
Hope you are all well

You can feed power from the socket on the rear of a loco.

You can add pickups and wiring to the coach (or coaches)

You can fit a small battery holder, switch and lights to the coach.

All the above have their pros and cons.

This is one of the ways that you can pickup from track, you just plug into the pins on the axle.

Metal wheels with pickups

US Marker light:

There are probably cheaper ways to do it however.

You can also get light decoders, though an expensive way to do things needing pickup on the vehicle it does make the lights individually controllable.

Thanks Craig.
So I have two carriages with those metal wheels and lights. Which I had put on way over ten years ago,and I’m sure the digital is about to make great.

I’m assuming now LED is the way to go so is that the same metal wheel pick up and Phil if you are out there what juice do they use?
I don’t need to function them as a CV as they will just be on when the tracks running but I’m sure at £29 from US I can do it cheaper here x

Oh and I mentioned Houston station to my lovely Lisa and she thought that’s a great idea.
So station building a go go

I'll send you a PM..
Look top-right for an envelope-type icon..

Hi Chris and welcome to the funny farm, or forum as we like to call it.
I expect the digital whizzes will help you out but for that connecter plug I had one between a loco & tender which broke off just as yours has. The part is readily available and the fitting is easy, the connecter has teeth which go through the insulation of the wire and make contact with the core - no soldering! I think the wires snap off where they enter the plug due to being constantly flexed, they certainly were on my Nicki & Frank S.
Hi Pugwash
Been a while.
I managed to open it and fix the wires back. So loco rear lighting is working and lesson learnt.

I got my loco back with decoder now fitted. And carriage and caboose lights all fitted slash fixed.
Not run it yet to take my first step in digital.
I’m looking to find LGB instructions on setting up my MTS and transformer so I don’t mess it up.
As I only have one loco to date I’m told I can programme it on the track as a pose to a seperate track?

In photos there appears to be a separate black cable with a circular pin plug to the MTS does anyone know what this is?
Will try to find a photo

Oh went to Llangollen it was good. Did you go?
I met Phil there lovely chap.

Hope you are well.

Chris

Hi again chums.
I got my loco back yesterday with the new massoth decider fitted.
James at Gathden Ltd is so so helpful.
So I got the 55005 MTS which has been tested with the transformer and hand set and loco by a clever chap and it’s working.
I’ve not tried it yet. Very excited though.

So my MTS doesn’t have the cable I’ve marked in the attached. Can anyone tell me what it’s for?
Do I need to find one?

I’m assuming it’s a programming thing ?
It’s circular with pins

Thanks
Chris
