Hello. I purchased this loco from my local hobby shop. It is basically brand-new condition just very old. A great deal at $180.00 . They are going crazy on eBay. I didn't really like the brown color. So i decided to paint it flat black. I also wanted to make it a Rio grande instead of Pennsylvania so i found the Rio grande image online and uploaded it to my cricut machine and made stencils. I'm really impressed with what i can do with this machine. I still need to pick a number for the loco and make that stencil.IMG_20180410_143847729.jpg IMG_20180410_150754767.jpg IMG_20180410_150806014.jpg IMG_20180415_181942695.jpg IMG_20180415_182925528_HDR.jpg IMG_20180415_183801563.jpg IMG_20180415_185601773.jpg IMG_20180415_192515168.jpg

Loco certainly looks much better in Black, but I do wonder did the Penn have any 2-6-0 in 3ft? I know that many US lines starte or indeed had extensive Narrow Gauge prior to being converted and there is of course the famous preserved line that I think may have been Pennsy.

There is no doubt that the cricut is making great lettering for you. How small have you managed with it?

To my untrained eye..
The black version looks more 'authentic' than the 'brown' one??

Perhaps it is just we Brits are used to black loco's??

Brave thing to do.. even if the loco was a relative bargain..:clap:

Thanks. I need to read up on the history not sure. The cricut machine is amazing the smallest letters i have done where 1/4 inch. I was a little worried about resale value when i iainted it but i really don't plan on selling it. And if i was going to buy one i would rather have one that looked like this one anyway . Thanks for the comments on my stuff..

looks nice!!

Repainting, as i do it, is a major under taking.

I fully diassemble, wash , dry, lightly sand, if necessary, especially metal parts, mask, prime, then, two or three really thin coats.

Why the hassle? Ive found that this methods is more forgiving, of handling.

But, for me, too black always looks right.

IMG_5397.JPG IMG_5397.JPGyou can legitimately have a brown mogul
I've re fashioned my LGB mogul to represent Cuban sugar Railways 1510 when it was based at Manalich Mill
The Mill superintendent seemed to be able to obtain paint quite unlike any other Mill in Cuba
Each year at the start of the cane cutting season Manalich s locos would appear in a new flashy livery !

Jack, see where you used cricut to make you stencil for your lettering, I use a similar machine a "silhouette cameo" but does same thing, I haven't done any stencils but do use the letters. Something that I have found is that the cricut transfer paper just sticks too well and makes weeding kind of tuff. Found at "Dollar Tree" a sticky back paper used to cover shelves with called "magic cover" works much better and releases well + only costs a buck, Bill
