Hi Guys
just a quick question. I have some LGB 1000 track lengths but the rails are not brass but a light weight type of alloy (pitted and a bit flakey) I always thought LGB track was all made of brass, any thoughts please. These 9 x lengths were in a box of track I recently purchased via an auction......hidden at the bottom!!! :impatient:
Regards to all

Kev,
I have some of this spare and I dont like it, it is Aluminum with Nickle plating.
Most of mine is peeled off...
I think was made in the early years of LGB with red-brown tie strips.

Hi Alec
yep, sounds like the same stuff. I think I will bin the rails, keep the sleepers for spares.
Many thanks for the fast reply.
All the best

Don't bin it too fast, put it on one side.
I have some of this too, usefull for stock storage, bits of
dead end track as scenery, entry to mine shaft etc, even a
stock siding.
Just wire brush the rails to remove the loose stuff and paint
any colour you fancy, way cheaper than using brass rail, for
none running track :D

The aluminium rail was made up until 1978. Its designation was '1000' for straights and '1100' for R1 curves. The brass version had a 'W' suffix added, i.e., '1100W'. The 'W' signified 'weatherproof' (for outdoors).

All the ally rail that I received (several boxes) was in perfect condition with no sign of pitting/flaking.
