The coach arrived today, initial disappointment but a rub over with Pledge and it looked great. The only fault is the loss of the little vent caps from the roof but the spurs to hold them are intact, no chance to find them.
The visit to the Talyllyn was great.
http://www.talyllyn.co.uk/news/celebrating-60-years-railway-preservation-talyllyn-style I sat Her Majesty in coach 3, bought a hot chocolate for her and said "I am buying a model like this". End of conversation.
?Thanks for your help, Derek.

Glad to hear it arrived safely, Derek - I think it was listed as "3/4" on the seller's quality scale, which means well used and certainly not mint, but not scrap either. I guess that was reflected in the price, while better condition ones were up around the 100 euro mark. When I got my parcel from them, one item (an old orange covered-bin wagon) which had also been marked 3/4 for condition was pretty filthy from outdoor use, but after a good cleanup with some soap and water it looks almost pristine again - I reckoned it was a good buy at just over 20 quid! If you want mint condition from that seller you need items that he classifies as "1" or "1/2", but you'll pay correspondingly more for them.
For the roof vents, most of the various LGB designs are still available as spares from Modell-Land's stocks - their high flat-rate shipping is a problem but if you can share a group order with others (as I've done two or three times now) it works out well. If you don't want to do that, then you can always use some of the push-in plastic screw cover caps from DIY stores (or left over from your last piece of flatpack furniture!) to make very acceptable replacement vents.
Hope you enjoy the coach!

Jon.
