LGB 2080 262 valve gear plastic bracket, old style metal valve gear

Came to me like this....the right hand side motion bracket has been broken at the top and bottom. The left hand side is perfect, which I could use to copy the missing parts and make a mirror image
But has anyone got a set of old style metal rods with the plastic bracket in their ‘ come in handy one day’ box? Before I start cobbling something together.

I may be able to help. I am dismantling a 2070. Most of the valve gear is missing, I am keeping the useful bits but I think the bit you want is in the bin. I will have a look & see if the bit you want is intact.

Bad news, I have extracted the brackets from the bin & the ones on the 2070 are slightly different & won't fit.

Thanks for looking. Whilst sorting through my junk pile, I have unearthed a short brass strip which may well do. A composite of 3 plastic bits may not be strong enough for ‘usual’ operations.

A rough template made from a coffee stirrer, probably from Makky D’s.
Coffee stirrers are available from most coffee outlets. Tea shops not visited.

If only I knew of a G gauge society group that has a dremal.......

Used a hacksaw to say down the cutout lines, then pliers to bend back and forth till the waste part broke off. Tidied up with a file. Made the chassis ‘hook’ from another narrower part of the strip, soldered together.

Then cut the unwanted parts off, first attempt at fitting it looks good.

I’ll be using a 2mm nut and bolt to secure the new bracket to the motion. The top lug needs reducing in size, there are quite small cutouts in the body shell to accommodate these lugs. I may not bother with the missing plastic parts as a) more to make ,b) more to drop off, and c) once the bracket has been painted black, who will notice?

Preliminary test running of the chassis seems ok, nothing binding on the new brass bit. I’m going to have to nut and bolt the small remaining part of the valve gear motion to the brass. Glue would do, but just at the critical moment, it will fail!
Out with the 1mm drill bit in a pin vice, followed by the 2.
I do have a mini drill somewhere......but this hole needs to be precise.....to the nearest foot anyway.

New bracket seems to be good. Trimmed the length, and joined all the bits together. Will give the loco a test run, before dismantling and painting the new bracket black. The valve rod doesn’t move quite as much as the good side, but 1) can you see the valve rod move when the loco is moving? 2) can you see both sides of the loco when it’s moving?

If my time was costed, this is a very uneconomic repair. Plus the huge cost of materials.....

Once test running proves satisfactory, I might be after some of PhilP’s black nuts. And bolts.

It’s about now that someone will offer a complete set of valve gear!

My nuts aren't black!

Neither are the ones in the box, unfortunately..
4mm is the shortest, and I have plain, or nylok nuts. - Both are 'silver'.

Have to say I would have gone for 8 or 10 BA brass nuts n bolts, with gun metal blacking to colour it all. Next time or when my temp repair fails I have yours to copy.
