LGB 12040 Switch Lantern Question

I have never used one of these. However, I may be from here on. My question is, how do they work with the switch drives that have no little offset with a hole, on the throw bar?

There should be a adaptor in the bag of bits that came with it...

This will clip onto the switch drive but if you have got them seconhand this is normally missing as it has been left on the previous switch drive.

These ones?

They just link onto the rack of the drive motor.

I have 2 different types of EPL drives, and they fit to both types. With, or without the 'offset'.

If needs be, I can dismantle one and take photos....

Yes Steve, it is a second hand lantern. I did have another switch drive with the proper throw arm, so I just swapped drives. But in the future, it would be nice to have the correct parts.

Gizzy, if it is not too much trouble, a photo would be helpful.

Here you are Dan.

Looks like I had an 'eye' for this particular motor, as highlighted in red. The other end of the rack bar highlighted in yellow, is the bit that attaches to the tie bar on the switch/point.

I've painted the lamp 'glass' on mine to act as a 'signal', but I've not yet wired up the lamp inside the lantern. Something I will do soon, now that I've gone to MTS operation....

How do these work for you? I tried them on my line at one time and I could never get the points to throw 100% which when using EPL automation is a bit of a problem so I took them all off......................Paul

Gizzy, so the throw bar must be the extra part that is included with a new lantern?

I guess so Dan?

I got mine 2nd hand from a friend, and it's a long time since I fitted them.

On the other one that I have, I seem to remember the point motor being of the type which already has the extended throw bar.

I can have a look tomorrow if you like? It's too dark out side here now....

Paul,

I found that I needed a longer pulse on the switch during my analogue days to make these operate reliably. I found them useful, because I could see that the points had operated if the lamp had turned, from my 'signal cabin' about 20 ft away. If they hadn't turned fully, I'd pulse the point switch again.

I now operate these points via a decoder. The pulse is set to the maximum setting on the CV, as advised by Muns. Each decoder output operates 2 point motors (Configured as facing crossovers) and each motor has either a type 2 accesory switch or a lantern.

So it works fine for me, although I had to do a bit of fettling to get it to work first time, everytime....

It is just the little bit of plastic that Gizzy has circled red that is supplied with new lamps, this then clips onto the existing throw bar depending on what side you want to mount it....

Ah Ha, we have penetration, thank you.

Quick answer No.
They attach to the point machines so there is no where to attach them to.
