Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

I have always liked the look of that loco, but sadly I could not find a use for one or a place for a rack line :o

I had to find a place for a rack railway on my indoor line. Not an easy task, but in the end it was worth it :P

That's a really nice model and worth the wait. Are you holding it ransom until the R/C one turns up?
It will be interesting to see how it looks with radio as I would imagine it isn't a particularly big model.

I agree about the model, it´s really nice. I talked to a guy today about installing R/C. The real challenge will be changing direction (which if you think about it, is a real necessity with a rack railway), as in the manual version, there is a lever underneath the body to do this. I left the model with him for him to have a think, but I suspect that I´ll have to ask Regner.

Be more than happy to have this lovely loco running on the Withy Grove Junction rack line :D :D :D

Thanks. I wish you luck with that purchase. But go for the R/C version ::) :P :-[

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

I think he meant that specific one.....
You've got to watch these Bamber Bridge folk y'know ;)

An odd idea about the r/c : I seem to remember reading that when the BRB was/is running downhill, the loco was in forward (uphill) gear and they would regulate the coast by letting a small amount of steam into the cylinders. If the model would coast downhill in steam in forward gear then all you would need would be some discrete and fine control of the throttle.

I hesitate to stand by this suggestion as I also have a vision of an expensive model crashing into the bufferstops - ski jump comes to mind - so maybe you better just send it on to Ian after all.

You may be closer than you think :)

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

That's a really pretty model.. Is it at all based on a prototype do you know? - Looks a little 'Emmet' to my eyes, but none the worse for that.

The "Emmet" character I think is there, and is somehow appropriate for the Portmierion-style station and staircase building. At least I like to believe that.

The original is in the Lucerne Transport Museum, or at least it was 2 weeks ago. It was built to serve the Rigi rack railway. The only "compromise" in the model is that the original is standard gauge, the model metre gauge.

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Deciphered the building instructions for the Rigi No 7, and discovered a final chapter describing R/C equipment, including the all important reverse servo. This may be one additional pack of goodies that I buy. Rather than having to climb up over the layout to the castle station and try to reverse a hot engine ....

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

By "popular request" (aka - "I can´t get my head round your layout design from the photos"), here a short guided tour of the Kent side of the line. No serious clearing up was done beforehand :-\ One of the bottles on the table is gin. Now which one ...? :P

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

And here´s another Kent side layout view that didn´t make the cut last time for the overview of this side of the line. Rumours that I have a thing for vertically boilered locomotives have been greatly exaggerated :-\ And I´m not sure that half-timbered house is going to stay there either :-X

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Thanks for posting those photos. Now my head fits around your layout. Not to worry, there's not much in there so it won't crowd out your layout ::)

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Many thanks. Glad that it helped. As for me, I can´t see the wood for the trees, but keep an eye on the space to the left of the pic. There´s going to be some (re)building going on there pretty shortly ... ;)

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Many thanks. It´s a public holiday here today, so it´s back to the cellar for me. There´s also (lots of) work to be done on the North Wales side, having just installed a new station, which needs the landscaping finished. :-\

heavenn..im in heaven ???

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Many thanks. I´d be doing the Welsh side, but the polyfilla is still wet ;)
