Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

More than one loco you might get away with...more than one garratt is really pushing your luck :D

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Yeah, the ELR coal-fired one sitting next to the Accucraft version was a bit of a give-away, I grant you. :-\

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Got back from the Peterborough with some stuff that had been repaired or lined out. Ok, with some new stuff, too.

This is a Peter Angus Single Fairlie of a certain age, newly painted and lined out by Matt Acton.

And a TME Maid Marian, having had an overhaul and being lined out by Chris TME himself. And luckily I came across this black TME Quarry Hunslet looking for a new home.

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

It´s been raining outside, so I´ve got no excuse to put off the landscaping and tree planting activities in the corner of the layout below Stokesay Castle. And rumour has it that the Regner rack railway locomotive "Rigi No. 7" is on its way, so there may even be a locomotive to get the tourists up to the attraction.

Do, you have your own website?
And,
Does it contain a tutorial on how you make the different trees at all?
PhilP.
<Envious> they are rather excellent! :( ;D ;D

No website, sorry. Just a Youtube video site.

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Brilliant work! Like PhilP, I am curious as to how you achieve such fantastic results. It is the foliage that intrigues me! Come on, share some of your secrets ;D

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

There is a guy in Germany called Manfred Grünig, who sells the stuff, but more importantly runs training courses to teach how to do it. Next one, according to his website is 17/18 May. Essentially, the technique is well-known, and uses copper electric cable, twisted in to ever thinner branches, with a mix of plaster and paint to cover. P.S. Trees are generally grey, not brown :-) The choice of foliage is up to you. He sells stuff or you can use the usual suspects such as Woodland Scenics, etc. But I think that the trick that he has is that he studies very carefully what trees actually look like. So while twisting copper wire is the one thing, the other is to practice getting the 3D shape right. And I haven´t found anyone who is better at it, yet.

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Many thanks. I´ve still got work to do over Easter. I´ll post some pics if it comes out the way I hope. :-\

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

We look forward to it. Your attention to detail is something to strive for..

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

I am going to move this thread to the 'Pictures' section with all the other great layout pictures.
Will leave it here for a day or two so people can pick up on that.

Re: Kent & North Wales Light Railway: New Boy

Fair enough. That way I´ll know where to find it :-\ :P

It was such a surprise that it finally arrived (ordered in 2012) that I don´t yet have the LGB rack railway components. And Regner forgot to send me a version with R/C ..... If you look at the layout, collecting it from the top left hand corner of the castle station is going to be a problem ...... :-\
