Kent Garden Railways

A very sad loss. Andy was a real railway enthusiast being involved in the spa valley railway and an owner of at least one engine based there. H

He was also a major supporter of our hobby and I often made purchases from him at shows. He will be much missed and I think the hobby will be much poorer with his passing.
RIP Andy .

Sorry to hear about Andy. I too visited his shop when I started out with the hobby and have continued to deal with him. A sad loss.
RIP.
Trevor

Hi everyone,
I also have just heard the tragic news about Andy from Kent Garden Rail.
He was one of life’s true gentleman, with a wealth of knowledge about all aspects of our wonderful hobby of Model Railways.
I am sure I can confidently say that all our thoughts go out to Andy’s friends and family at this sad and difficult time.
RIP Andy.

Just heard the news. Sorry to hear of Andy's passing - he was one of the good guys. I can still remember the pain of walking down to his shop from St Mary Cray station - it was further than I thought! Helped me out with a few bits over the years too. He'll be missed.

I thought you meant the pain of parting with the cash - it was a well-stocked shop, with many manufacturer's stuff.

Very sad news! I always cycled past his shop and got worried when then signs disappeared. Does anyone know if somebody continues his online shop? The website it still live

Cheers
Christoph

Not sure tbh. The website appears all in order and hasn't been shut down. There's a couple of coaches on there I wouldn't mind, but dare not order just in case.

It's not a good situation. How do you manage Big Red Boxes on a bike?

Sadly there are rumours spreading on other forums, which I attach as information only. It appears that stock is still being held safely, but people should contact the solicitors asap. From experience probate is not a quick process, (2 to 3 years) but best to register any outstanding orders or money owed now so you are in the system. I hope this may help people from falling through the net.

Start of quote from the other forum.....

Trevor Barham has advised us that following the death of Kent Garden Railways sole owner Andy Cottenham the business is now in the hands of the executors T.G. Baynes Solicitors, Downe House 303 High Street, Orpington BR6 0NJ. Tel 01689 886000.
All the stock is being cleared by a house clearance firm with no knowledge of model railways nor customers paid for orders and is going for auction shortly.
Please can any customers of KGR of High Street St Mary Cray Orpington urgently contact the above Solicitors before their orders are lost.

We have received the following update from Mark Hallgate about the above -
'Your home page lists the passing of Andy Cottenham which sadly is correct however the line that the stock is being cleared by a house clearance firm and going to auction shortly is wrong. The stock has been taken for safe storage until Probate has cleared then all orders will where possible be completed monies returned if not models left returned etc. However this will only happen if the solicitors are informed. Once that is complete then any remaining stock will go to auction. Information direct from the solicitors.'
